It is like this, great king, if it is like that, then no dharma transmigrates from this world to another world. Although death and birth appear, great king, that last consciousness does not come from anywhere at the time of birth, nor does it go anywhere at the time of death. Karma and its maturation, and that first consciousness, do not come from anywhere at the time of birth, nor do they go anywhere at the time of death. What is the reason for that? Because there is no inherent existence. The last consciousness is empty, empty of the self-nature of the last consciousness. Karma is empty, empty of the self-nature of karma. Maturation is empty, empty of the self-nature of maturation. The first consciousness is empty, empty of the self-nature of the first consciousness. Death and birth are empty, empty of the self-nature of death and birth. Samsara is empty, empty of the self-nature of samsara. Although karmas are exhausted and maturation appears to be experienced, there is no agent or eater other than the indication of the eye. Great king, it is like this, for example, if a person dreams in his sleep that he has a dog's corpse, a human corpse, or a snake's corpse hanging around his neck. When he wakes up from his sleep and remembers it, great king, what do you think? Do those corpses of dogs, corpses of humans, and corpses of snakes in the dream exist? He replied: Blessed One, they do not exist. The Buddha said: Great king, then, if a person is attached to the dog's corpse, the human corpse, and the snake's corpse hanging around his neck in the dream, is he of the nature of a wise person? He replied: Blessed One, no. What is the reason for that? Blessed One, the dog's corpse, the human corpse, or the snake's corpse seen in the dream itself does not exist and cannot be identified, let alone hanging around the neck? Otherwise, the person who is attached to it will become poor and exhausted. The Blessed One said: Great king, similarly, ignorant ordinary people, who have not heard the Dharma, when the nose senses a smell, they also become attached to unpleasant smells, and after being attached, they become angry, and after becoming angry, they become hateful, and after becoming hateful...
