Having spoken thus, the Blessed One addressed those Bodhisattvas, saying: "Noble sons, it is so, it is so. Just as you have said. Noble sons, more merit is generated by reciting the name of Mañjuśrīkumārabhūta than by reciting the names of billions of hundreds of thousands of millions of Buddhas. What need is there to mention the name of the Tathāgata Samantadarśana? Why is that? Because the benefit to sentient beings that Mañjuśrīkumārabhūta has done in each kalpa is not done even by billions of hundreds of thousands of millions of Buddhas." Then the gods, nāgas, yakṣas, gandharvas, asuras, garuḍas, kinnaras, mahoragas, humans, and non-humans of that assembly, billions of hundreds of thousands of millions of them, spoke with one voice, saying: "Homage to Mañjuśrīkumārabhūta! Homage to the Tathāgata Samantadarśana!" As soon as they said this, eighty-four billions of hundreds of thousands of millions of beings generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Countless sentient beings also fully matured their roots of virtue and became irreversible from unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Mañjuśrīkumārabhūta then said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, I have made this aspiration: In the ten directions, in the countless, immeasurable billions of hundreds of thousands of millions of world realms where Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, reside, whatever qualities of the Buddha-fields, such as the adornments of the Buddha-fields, the adornments of aspirations, the characteristics, the signs, the conduct, and the aspects of the abodes, that I have seen, except for the arrangements of the Śrāvakas and the Buddhas of the five degenerations, I will gather all of them into one Buddha-field and include them within it. Blessed One, if I were to describe the qualities and arrangements of my Buddha-field, it would take as many kalpas as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River.

If one were to speak in other ways without hindrance, or even speak for a longer time than that, those qualities and arrangements of the Buddha-fields would not be exhausted. O Blessed One, regarding the nature of my aspiration, there is no other who has power over it except the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha. The Blessed One said: Manjushri, it is just so. The Tathagata has understood it. The wisdom of the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, is unimpeded and pervades all three times. Then, from within that assembly, some Bodhisattvas thought to themselves: The qualities and arrangements of his own Buddha-field that the youthful Manjushri speaks of, and the qualities and arrangements of the Buddha-field in the world-realm of Sukhavati, the Buddha-field of the Blessed One, the Tathagata Amitabha, are these two the same? Or are they different? Then, the Blessed One, having understood the thoughts in the minds of those Bodhisattvas, spoke to the Bodhisattva Simha-vikridita-ghosha, saying: Son of good family, it is like this: For example, if someone were to take a single drop of water from the great ocean with an instrument that could split a hair into a hundred parts, son of good family, what do you think? Which would be greater, the water that was taken or the water that remains? He replied: O Blessed One, the water that was taken is little, while the water that remains is immeasurable. The Blessed One said: Son of good family, the single drop of water that that person took from the great ocean with an instrument that could split a hair into a hundred parts, that is how the qualities and arrangements of the Buddha-field of the Tathagata Amitabha in the world-realm of Sukhavati should be viewed. The amount of water that remains in the great ocean, that is how the qualities and arrangements of the Buddha-field of the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, Samantadarshin should be viewed. Then, the Bodhisattva Simha-vikridita-ghosha said to the Blessed One:
