There are also sentient beings with consciousness, such as butterflies, bees, mosquitoes, and those called Trelata, and so on. Furthermore, there are countless immeasurable beings who are always born in darkness and grow old in darkness. This is because in their previous lives, when they were humans, they were foolish and deluded, did not listen to the true Dharma, indulged in body, speech, and mind, were attached to the five desires, and accumulated many sinful and unwholesome deeds. Therefore, they are born into such beings and suffer the pain of ignorance and delusion. Kashyapa, there are also sentient beings in the animal realm who are born in water, grow old in water, and die in water, which are also countless and immeasurable. For example, fish, turtles, frogs, white frogs, crocodiles, and so on. All these beings are due to the unwholesome deeds of body, speech, and mind in their previous lives, and so on, which can be explained in detail as before. For example, pigs, sheep, dogs, foxes, vultures, crows, flies, beetles, and carnivores. All these beings suffer such consequences due to the sins and unwholesome deeds of their previous lives. Kashyapa, there are also sentient beings in the animal realm who always eat grass, trees, and unclean things, and their number is also countless and immeasurable. For example, elephants, horses, mules, cows, donkeys, and foals, and so on. All these beings will suffer such consequences due to the unwholesome deeds of their previous lives until the end of their lives. Furthermore, Kashyapa, alas, alas! The ocean of samsara is burning, extremely burning, very burning, and exceedingly very burning. There is not a single sentient being who is not burned and scorched by it. This is due to the flames of the eyes, ears, nose, body, and mind, and the craving for visible forms, sounds, smells, tastes, tactile objects, and dharmas. Kashyapa, what is the burning and extremely burning fire? It is desire.

The fire of earth, hatred, and ignorance, the fire of birth, aging, sickness, and death, the fire of sorrow, lamentation, suffering, discomfort, and strife constantly burns and blazes, so that wandering in samsara is not easily pacified or cut off. Those who initiate diligence experience much happiness and generate steadfast minds, thereby completely eliminating afflictions. By cultivating virtuous Dharma and not abandoning diligence, there is no cessation. Therefore, you should now contemplate that the skin, flesh, water, bones, blood, tendons, and legs of this body will soon separate and decay. You should examine each part individually, constantly with a single-pointed mind, without being lazy. In order to realize this directly, you must diligently train in this way with earnest effort. Joyful One, I do not argue with worldly people, but worldly people insist on arguing with me. Why is that? Those who understand the Dharma do not argue with others. If one is free from the clinging to self and what belongs to self, with whom would one argue? However, those who lack vision and knowledge cultivate untrue clinging. Therefore, after I attained perfect and complete enlightenment, I said, "There is no Dharma that I do not know." Joyful One, is there any difference in what I have said? Joyful One replied, "Bhagavan, there is no difference. There is no change in what the Tathagata has said." The Bhagavan said, "Good, good! Joyful One, there is no doubt or difference in the words of the Tathagata. Therefore, the Tathagata speaks truthfully, speaks the truth, speaks according to reality, speaks without difference, and speaks without deception. He brings long-term benefit, happiness, and great advantage to worldly people. He is the knower of the path, the recognizer of the path, the shower of the path, the opener of the path, and the leader of the path. The Tathagata, Arhat, perfectly and completely enlightened Buddha, is endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Sugata, the knower of the world."

Unsurpassed, tamer of men, controller, the teacher of gods and humans has become the Buddha Bhagavan. Worldly people are without wisdom, without complete trust. They are always slaves to the senses, seeing only what is in their palms, not looking at great meanings, not practicing easy things, always doing difficult things. Ananda, temporarily put aside the realm of practice with wisdom, if you separately examine all that you know and see with your physical eyes as not being true, that itself is liberation. Ananda, do not leave because you have faith in me! Do not follow because you desire me! Do not rely on my words! Do not cling to my marks and signs! Do not follow the views and knowledge of ascetics! Do not generate respect for ascetics! Do not say, "The ascetic Gautama is my great teacher," but go alone to a solitary place, contemplate the Dharma that I have awakened to, measure it! Discern it separately! Constantly meditate on it many times! With one-pointed mind, separately examine all dharmas. From those dharmas, perfect the concept of meditation, abide in correct mindfulness, make yourself an island! Make yourself a place and refuge! Make the Dharma your island! Make the Dharma your place and refuge! Apart from that, there is no other island, place, or refuge. Ananda, how does a monk become his own island, become his own place and refuge, become the Dharma's island, become the Dharma's place and refuge, and have no other island, no other place, and no refuge? Ananda, like this, any monk who abides in his own body, contemplating the body as the body, diligently remembering, with one-pointed mind, attains correct wisdom, and constantly remembers in his mind all the anger of the world, and becomes very gentle, that is called contemplating the body as the body within. Whether he contemplates the external body, the internal and external bodies of both
