The Noble Sutra on Entering the Womb of the Venerable Nanda, called the Great Vehicle Sutra. The Noble Sutra on Entering the Womb of the Venerable Nanda, called the Great Vehicle Sutra. This is the thirteenth chapter from the hundred-thousand-chapter collection of the Noble Great Heap of Jewels Sutra, which is the chapter on the Venerable Nanda's Abiding in the Womb. Volume One. In Indian language: Ārya Nanda garbha vyākrānti nirdeśa. In Tibetan: The Noble Sutra on Entering the Womb of Nanda, called the Great Vehicle Sutra. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Thus have I heard. At one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in the city of Kapilavastu (around 6th century BCE), in the Nigrodharama grove, together with a gathering of monks, all without exception. At that time, the Blessed One's younger brother, named Nanda, whose body was the color of gold, possessed the thirty-two marks, and whose height was four fingers shorter than the Blessed One, had a wife named Sundari, who was virtuous, beautiful to behold, with a beautiful face, rare in the world, with an exceptionally excellent complexion, and whom many desired to see. Nanda was attached to her and clung to her, never parting from her even for a moment, and was deeply attached with a mind of desire, even willing to give his life for her. The Blessed One, knowing that the time had come to tame him, put on his robes in the early morning and, carrying his begging bowl, went with his attendant, the Venerable Ananda, to the city to beg for alms. Gradually, he arrived at the house where Nanda lived, went to its door, and stood there. Then, through the power of great compassion, he emitted rays of light like the color of gold, which illuminated Nanda's house, making it appear entirely like pure gold. At that time, Nanda thought to himself, "Since this light is shining everywhere, without a doubt, this is the Thus-Gone One." Thinking this, he sent a person to look. That person, having seen the Blessed One, quickly and hastily returned and said to Nanda, "The Blessed One is standing at the door." Having heard these words, Nanda quickly went out to greet the Blessed One, and

After doing this, Sundarika thought to herself: If I let him go, the Blessed One will not eat and will become a renunciate. Thinking this, she held onto the edge of his robe and did not let go. Ananda said: Wait a moment, let me pay homage to the Blessed One, and then I will return. Sundarika said: We will make a promise, and then I will let you go. Immediately, she put a mark of wet vermillion on his forehead and said: Please return before this mark dries. If you are delayed, I will cut you off with a fine of five hundred karshapanas of gold. Ananda also said: So be it. He went out, bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, took the Tathagata's alms bowl, and returned home. He filled the alms bowl with food and drink and came out. The Blessed One had already left, so he gave it to the venerable Ananda. The Blessed One indicated that he should take the alms bowl. Ananda thought: The Tathagata, the great teacher, is very majestic, and I cannot offer it. So he gave it back to Ananda. Ananda said: From whom did you receive this alms bowl? He said: I received it from the Blessed One. Ananda said: Then offer it to the Blessed One. He said: I cannot offer it to the great teacher. Without saying anything, he became an attendant. The Blessed One returned to the monastery, washed his hands and feet, and sat on the seat.

No. Then, the Blessed One said to Ananda: "Go and shave Nanda's hair and beard." "As you say, Blessed One." Having said that, Ananda sought a barber and began to shave Nanda's hair. Nanda said to the barber: "Hey, don't you know? I will soon become a powerful Chakravartin king. If you shave my hair and beard, I will cut off your two hands up to the elbows." The barber was very frightened, put away his razor, and prepared to leave. Then, the Venerable Ananda reported this matter to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One himself went to where Nanda was and asked Nanda: "Are you not going forth?" Nanda replied: "I am going forth." Then, the Blessed One himself took a water pot and poured water on Nanda's head, and the barber shaved his hair and beard. Nanda thought: "Now I will temporarily serve the Blessed One and go forth, but in the evening I will return to lay life and go home." In the evening, he set out on the road home. Then, the Blessed One conjured up a huge cliff on the road he was going to take. Nanda saw it and thought: "It has been a long time since I made an appointment with Sundarika, and now there is no chance to go. If I die today because I miss her, that is also possible. If I don't die, I will go again tomorrow morning." In this way, Nanda spent the night in longing, sorrow, and suffering for Sundarika. Then, the Blessed One, knowing Nanda's thoughts with his wisdom, told Ananda: "Ananda, go and tell Nanda to be the manager of the monastery." Ananda also did so, went to where Nanda was, and told him that the Blessed One had told him to be the manager of the monastery. Nanda asked: "What is a manager like? What does he have to do?" Ananda replied: "The manager needs to manage the affairs of the Sangha in the temple." Nanda asked: "How should it be managed?" Ananda said: "The so-called monastery manager is that if the monks go begging for alms, inside the temple..."
