Because it is a cause of increase, only suffering arises, and only suffering ceases. Therefore, the causes and conditions of all conditioned things arise without ceasing. The Tathagata fully understands these things, so the cyclical dharma of sentient beings, all conditioned things are impermanent and not truly ultimate. They are subject to change and unreliable, so one should seek contentment everywhere and generate great renunciation. One should diligently strive to seek liberation. Joyful one, even sentient beings born in happy realms experience unbearable suffering in impure birthplaces. The various experiences are not true and cannot be fully described. What need is there to mention the unbearable suffering experienced by sentient beings in the three lower realms of hungry ghosts, animals, and hell beings? The complete suffering that is difficult to endure, what more needs to be said? End of Volume Three. Furthermore, Joyful One, there are four ways of entering the mother's womb. What are the four? Some sentient beings enter the womb with full knowledge, abide in the womb with full knowledge, and emerge from the womb with full knowledge. Some enter the womb with full knowledge, abide in the womb with full knowledge, but do not emerge from the womb with full knowledge. Some enter the womb with full knowledge, but do not abide in the womb with full knowledge, nor do they emerge from the womb with full knowledge. Some do not enter the womb with full knowledge, do not abide in the womb with full knowledge, nor do they emerge from the womb with full knowledge. Who, then, enters, abides, and emerges with full knowledge? It is like this: some ordinary sentient beings are naturally fond of keeping the precepts, repeatedly cultivate the side of virtue, are fond of excellent things, manifestly accumulate merit, very truly keep their vows, always think uprightly, do not act carelessly, and possess great wisdom. Therefore, at the time of death, they take birth correctly without regret, constantly entering into seven rebirths, or being born from family to family, or many times.
