O. Whatever is the nature of affliction is also the nature of enlightenment. Whatever is the nature of enlightenment is the nature of affliction. Thus, even when mindfulness is applied, there is no slight abiding, no supreme abiding, no non-abiding, because the suchness of dharma is fully known as the abiding nature. Therefore, the realm of dharma is called the abiding nature. Wherever the realm of dharma abides, the realm of sentient beings also abides there. Wherever the realm of sentient beings abides, the realm of space also abides. Therefore, know that all dharmas are equal to space. The Bodhisattva abides in dharma, follows dharma, and thus relies on the Buddha's dharma. He believes that all dharmas are the Buddha's dharma. Although he generates the knowledge of its cessation, he does not manifest the unconditioned cessation. Although he manifests the attainment of non-arising, he does not abandon the extreme of arising and non-arising for the sake of viewing sentient beings. What is called mindfulness is that all dharmas abide in that mindfulness, and the hearers, or solitary Buddhas, or those who follow the Buddha's dharma, abide in mindfulness. This is called immeasurable teaching, not a universal realm of practice, completely encompassing all Buddha's dharmas, satisfying the minds of all sentient beings, subduing all demons, for the sake of realizing self-origination. Shariputra, therefore, the Bodhisattva abides in dharma, follows dharma, and cultivates mindfulness. These are called the four mindfulnesses. Shariputra, therefore, the Bodhisattva is skilled in these four mindfulnesses and practices the Prajnaparamita. So, what are the Bodhisattvas skilled in the limbs of enlightenment? The Bodhisattvas have seven limbs of enlightenment. What are the seven? Like this: mindfulness as a limb of perfect enlightenment, discrimination of dharmas as a limb of perfect enlightenment, diligence as a limb of perfect enlightenment, joy as a limb of perfect enlightenment, serenity as a limb of perfect enlightenment, samadhi as a limb of perfect enlightenment, and equanimity.

Calmness is a branch of perfect enlightenment. Shariputra, these are the seven branches of enlightenment of the Bodhisattvas. Among them, what is the branch of perfect mindfulness? With what kind of mindfulness does one realize the Dharma? Does one separately contemplate the Dharma? Does one examine the Dharma? Does one completely seek the Dharma and distinguish the Dharma? Does one separately contemplate the Dharma? With that mindfulness, one also subsequently realizes the characteristics of the nature of all Dharmas. Furthermore, what is the knowledge of the characteristics of the nature of all Dharmas? All Dharmas are empty of their own nature. Remembering and understanding in this way is called the branch of perfect mindfulness. Among them, what is the branch of perfect discrimination of Dharmas? It is the knowledge that can completely distinguish the eighty-four thousand aggregates of Dharma. The definitive meaning is also regarded as the definitive meaning, the interpretable meaning is also regarded as the interpretable meaning, the conventional meaning is also regarded as the conventional meaning, the ultimate meaning is also regarded as the ultimate meaning, the expression is also regarded as the expression, and the ultimate determination is also regarded as the ultimate determination. Thus distinguishing these Dharmas is called the branch of perfect discrimination of Dharmas. Among them, what is the branch of perfect effort? It is the joy of that very discrimination of Dharmas, tranquility, samadhi, equanimity, the superior understanding of wisdom, joy, strength, courage, unwavering intention, ability, not abandoning effort, and striving to manifest the path to enlightenment, which is called the branch of perfect effort. What is the branch of joy? With what kind of joy, and joy in the Dharma, and great joy in the Dharma, does the mind not shrink back and generate faith? With unwavering joy, making the body or mind tranquil, and eliminating all afflictions, is called the branch of joy. Among them, what is the branch of tranquility? It is tranquility of body, tranquility of mind, tranquility of afflictions, without obstruction, and samadhi.
