Compassion, joy, and equanimity are also regarded as collections of wisdom. What is the reason for this? Because all the actions of a Bodhisattva are based on wisdom, with wisdom going first. Relying on wisdom. Because he abides in wisdom, he becomes the reliance of all wise beings. All demons cannot find fault with him. He also obtains the blessings of the Buddha. He also inclines towards the wisdom of omniscience. These two are the collections of merit and the collections of wisdom of a Bodhisattva. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva, skilled in these two collections, practices the Perfection of Wisdom. So, what are the Bodhisattvas skilled in regarding mindfulness? These four are the mindfulness meditations of the Bodhisattvas. What are the four? For example, contemplating the body in the body, practicing mindfulness; contemplating feelings in feelings, practicing mindfulness; contemplating the mind in the mind, practicing mindfulness; and contemplating dharmas in dharmas, practicing mindfulness. So, what is contemplating the body in the body, practicing mindfulness? Shariputra, here the Bodhisattva abides contemplating the body in the body, he also separately understands the past limit of the body, he also separately understands the future limit of the body, he also separately understands the present arising of the body. Alas! This body arises from perversion, born from causes and conditions, without movement, without a maker, without a lord, without grasping. For example, external grass and, trees and, medicine and, forests arise from causes and conditions, without a lord and without grasping, similarly, this body is also like grass and, walls and, trees and, stumps and, cataracts, aggregates and, realms and, sources grasping at self and what belongs to self? Is it permanent? Is it stable? Is it solid? Is it an unchanging dharma? It is empty. Do not regard that body as me, take the essence from that meaningless body. So, what is the essence? For example, the body of the Tathagata.

The body of the Tathagata is the Dharmakaya, the Vajra body, the indivisible body, the solid body, the body that transcends all three realms, I shall accomplish. Although this body of mine is stained with many faults, may I attain the body of the Tathagata, free from all faults. Thus, through the power of individually examining it, having seen it well, one protects the body, the place of the great elements. May my body be exhausted for whatever all sentient beings need. For example, just as the four great external elements, namely the earth element, the water element, the fire element, and the wind element, with various doors, various objects, various names, various implements, and various uses, sentient beings live in close proximity, so may this body of mine, which is made up of the four great elements, with various doors, various objects, various names, and various uses, become the close sustenance of sentient beings. Although one also individually examines the impermanence of the body, birth and death do not arise. Although one also individually examines the suffering nature of the body, one is not completely afflicted by the suffering of the body. Although one also individually examines the selflessness of the body, one does not shrink from the task of maturing sentient beings. Although one also individually examines the peacefulness of the body, one does not fall into abandoning the peacefulness of the body. Although one also individually examines the emptiness of the body and the solitude of the body, one does not fall into the extreme of solitude. One dwells contemplating the body in the body, and does not see the body as a substance or essence. When one dwells contemplating the body in the inner body, one does not open the opportunity for the afflictions that follow the inner. When one dwells contemplating the body in the outer body, one does not dwell together with the afflictions that follow the outer. Because that body is without afflictions, it is endowed with the complete purification of the actions of the body. After that body is completely purified, one will attain a body perfectly adorned with marks. After that body has become adorned with marks, one will be able to directly subdue gods and humans, that is
