Having said that they should not be venerated and served, those monks were each placed in five hundred households for alms for half a month. Shariputra, at that time, the Blessed One, the Thus-Gone One, the Foe-Destroyer, the Perfectly Awakened One, the Well-Gone One, and those hearers who were Arhats with vision, monks who were Arhats, having eliminated defilements and afflictions, went into the city for alms. Women, men, children, and girls scolded and said unpleasant things, reviled with harsh and rude words, and said in verses: You are lost on the path, you are not knowers of the Dharma. Because you have fallen away from the Dharma, all beings will go to hell. Thus, those monks were scolded and spoken to unpleasantly with the tune of verses. Then, they praised the Buddha himself, and again spoke in verses: All conditioned things are impermanent, and all dharmas are without self. Impermanent and without permanence, thus the Buddha taught the Dharma. False, deceptive, and empty, all conditioned things are without essence. Having the nature of falsehood and deception, always deceiving children. The Thus-Gone One taught the Dharma without self, without beings, without life, without person. They spoke these verses. Giving, eating, and receiving, and experiencing vast feelings, those who say there is no self will go to bad destinies. Shariputra, whether men, women, old or young, acted according to the words of non-holy beings, therefore, sixty-eight thousand beings died from there and were reborn in the great hell of Avici. There, the form of their bodies was like this: appearing like fish, their heads gathered like this, becoming like humans. A tongue like this appeared, like a large wine barrel in a tavern. Their tongues were plowed by many iron plows. Each of their bodies was tormented by a hundred short knots. From the sky above, burning iron pillars blazed everywhere, blazing intensely, spreading everywhere, accompanied by flames, becoming a sea of fire, falling upon their bodies. Then

The Blessed One then spoke these verses: The realm of blazing electric tongues, Hundreds and thousands, Constantly descend upon the body, Causing people to experience sickness. All bodies are burning everywhere, Blazing flames are difficult to approach, Filled with hundreds of yojanas, Flames arise from the body. On each tongue of speech, Such plows cultivate it, The tongues of all are split, Experiencing suffering arises. Relying on sinful companions, They arise one after another, Abandoning those with discipline, They quickly fall into evil realms. Again, Shariputra, those six non-virtuous individuals, after dying from there, were born in the great hell of Avici, and each of their bodies manifested and became a hundred yojanas in size. On each body, a thousand mouths manifested. On each mouth, two tongues manifested, each about four yojanas long, like a paddy field. On each tongue, five hundred plows manifested. Those tongues were plowed with iron lumps and iron plows, and those tongues were cut off, and they could not even utter a cry of "Ah!" On each of their heads, hundreds of thousands of hell guards resided and cut off their necks. There, the lifespan of each of them became a hundred billion years. Similarly, beings also experienced various kinds of feelings in other great hells. Why is that? Because they reviled the Buddha's teachings with disapproval. Also at that time, there was a householder named Deva, who was rich and had great wealth, great enjoyment, many possessions, many owners, and many guests, servants, jewels, pearls, vaidurya, conches, coral, red coral, silver, and many saffron. He had male servants, female servants, laborers, and many people who lived on wages, and he had much wealth, grain, granaries, and storehouses. Those non-virtuous individuals placed him in the speech of the naked heretics who held views of annihilation. His wife was named Radiance.

There was an event: a person appeared who was handsome, beautiful, pleasing to behold, of excellent and perfect color. From that, a son was born who was also handsome, beautiful, pleasing to behold, of excellent and perfect color. He had planted roots of virtue with many millions of billions of Buddhas. As soon as he was born, he laughed three times and exclaimed, "I am born into the lineage of those who speak of annihilation." When the child's mother heard that sound, she was frightened, displeased, and her hair stood on end. She abandoned the child and fled, and the other women who had gathered also scattered. Then, Shariputra went to where those women had gone. Returning, he looked and thought, "Is this a deva? A naga? A yaksha? A gandharva? An asura? A garuda? A kinnara? A kumbhanda? A preta? A bhuta? A rakshasa? A human? A non-human? Who is this? I should know." Then Shariputra thought, "Alas, those women have fled from happiness." At that time, he spoke these verses: I desire your benefit, I will not cause harm, do not be afraid. You have entered a bad path, I will completely liberate you. You fear happiness, enemies are approaching. From falling into wrong views, I will deliver you. Shariputra, then the child's mother, father, and many ordinary people, hearing those verses, went to where the child was. Then, the child spoke these verses to his mother and father: Wealth and grains, there are many in the house, quickly give them to me, I am a Shravaka of the Buddha. In all the mandalas of the three worlds, there is no one like the All-Seeing, Illuminator of the World, I am his Shravaka. For the benefit of all beings, he correctly teaches the Dharma, the All-Seeing, Illuminator of the World, I am his Shravaka. Whose body possesses the thirty-two marks of a great being, the All-Seeing, Lamp of the World, I am his Shravaka.
