May I practice celibacy! Where do they reside? The Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened One, the Manifestly Victorious King, in that place where he is praised with verses of song, they made a Tathagata temple out of red sandalwood, four yojanas in width and half a yojana in height. Having made that temple, they offered it to the Tathagata. Having offered it, they recited these verses to the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Manifestly Victorious King: In whatever place you dwell, Which four places were praised by the former victors, In order to seek that place, I offer this temple to the Sugata. In which places do they always reside, Those born in the past, future, and present, The mind that is not sought by hundreds of millions of beings, I will seek that conduct. Which conducts are those that reach the other shore, Right abandonment and likewise miraculous feet, The correct wisdom of each of the four supreme ones. I will seek those conducts. In that very temple, they paid homage to the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Manifestly Victorious King, and the Sangha of monks for half a month. They respected him. They revered him. They made offerings. In that temple, they paid homage to the Tathagata and the Sangha of monks. They respected him. They revered him. Having made offerings, In the presence of that very Tathagata, they shaved their hair and beards, donned saffron robes, and with faith went forth from home to homelessness, having become prisoners for seeking virtue. With the mind to seek virtue,

I do not sleep in bed. For the sake of all living beings, I seek the path to enlightenment. Having completely abandoned my own body and life, Having completely abandoned all laziness, I will seek the supreme enlightenment. Having abandoned flesh and blood, skin, dried tendons, and life, Having completely abandoned all laziness, For the sake of supreme enlightenment, I will initiate diligence. Shariputra, thereafter, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding in vows, spoke these verses to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding in vows: We two have gathered together, For the benefit of all living beings, We will practice the conduct of enlightenment, We will initiate supreme diligence. Even if we abandon body and life, Even if flesh and blood are always dried up, Following you in thousands of lifetimes, For the sake of supreme enlightenment, we will initiate diligence. Wherever the glorious lord of Dharma resides, One should completely seek supreme wisdom, In the mountains and by the water in solitary places, Without doubt, initiate diligence. Shariputra, thereafter, the Bodhisattva Stomba and the one abiding in Stomba, for a thousand years, not even once, not even being overcome by drowsiness and sleep from even a yawn. For a thousand years, not even once did they generate the thought of wanting to sleep. For a thousand years, not even once did they desire a seat, thinking they wanted to sit down. The two of them said, except for the time of urinating and defecating, for a thousand years, not even once did they squat down. When they ate food, they would eat only about three mouthfuls while standing, and drink about a cup of water. For a thousand years, the two of them never craved food, or rejoiced in quickly finding food when hungry. For a thousand years, the two of them never ate more than that amount of food. For a thousand years, when the two of them ate food, not even once did they have any awareness of thoughts such as sweet, sour, taste, spicy, bitter, or astringent in the food. For a thousand years, when the two of them went for alms, they did not think about whether the one giving alms today was a woman, a man, a boy, or a girl.
