And, holding sons and daughters is holding immoral discipline and stinginess, as well as immoral wisdom, shamelessness and lack of shame. Holding wives, sons and daughters is holding diseases, tumors and pain. It is holding the corpse of the mother. It is holding poisonous snakes. The place of the house is the place of the cemetery. The cemetery and the house are quiet places without wailing, where all white dharmas decline, he said. Attachment to sons, daughters and wives is attachment to falling hailstones. It is attachment to the edge of a sword. It is attachment to a burning iron throne. Attachment to its flowers, incense, garlands and ointments is attachment to the iron throne, the garland of iron thorns and things smeared with feces and urine. Holding a house is holding iron and copper. Holding male servants, female servants and hired people is holding the guards of the hells of sentient beings. Holding elephants, horses, mules, cows, donkeys, sheep, poultry and pigs is holding variegated creatures and hundred-yojana spotted creatures. Holding wives, sons and daughters is holding suffering, discomfort and all strife. Shariputra, even a thousand-yojana hot, burning, fire-like iron throne, intercourse with it is still bearable, but looking at the wife given by parents from afar with a mind of attachment is not permissible, let alone intercourse with her? Why is that? A wife is the root of suffering. A wife is the root of all kinds of torment. A wife is the root of bondage. A wife is the root of sorrow. A wife is the root of enemies. A wife is the root of blindness. A wife is the root that is incompatible with the eye of wisdom. A wife is a ground covered with burning iron and stones. A wife is like something that harms others. A wife is something tormented by evil deeds. Why is she called a wife? Because she imposes burdens, bears burdens, completely endures burdens, and carries burdens.

Having fully taken on the burden, being tormented by the burden, listening to the burden, and being emaciated by the burden, therefore she is called "small wife." Beings are also called "nourishers" of her, because they are driven by craving and indulge in the small wife, and are completely occupied by the small wife. Defeated by the small wife, completely controlled by the small wife, dominated by the small wife, driven by the small wife, following the small wife. Therefore she is called "small wife." For the sake of the small wife, one does not abandon the great burden. What burden is not abandoned? It is like this, the five aggregates. What are the five aggregates? Namely, the aggregate of form, the aggregate of feeling, the aggregate of perception, the aggregate of mental formations, and the aggregate of consciousness. Because one does not abandon the burden of these five aggregates, therefore she is called "small wife." Why is she called "second rotten corpse"? Just like Shariputra, it is the second moral discipline that is corrupted. It is the second Dharma that is corrupted. It is the second right view that is corrupted. It is the second eating and drinking. It is the second going to the hells, the animal realm, and the realm of Yama. It obstructs the wisdom of the noble ones. It is an unfavorable condition for the happiness of liberation from suffering. It is the second complete accumulation of all suffering, therefore she is called "second rotten corpse." Why is she called "woman"? Because she has many faults and endless illusions, therefore this is illusion, that is, she is called "woman." Whoever falls into the hands of a woman, falls into the hands of a demon. Whoever falls into the hands of a demon, falls into the power of a sinner. Woman is: having many faults, having endless illusions, having a light mind, having a changeable mind, having an unstable mind, having a mind that is extremely agitated and unstable, having the mind of a monkey, being similar to a monkey, being skilled in showing illusions. Therefore she is called "woman." Shariputra, woman is a city of illusions, a king of illusions surrounded by a palace, a town of illusions, a king of illusions surrounded by a country, a kingdom of illusions, a land of illusions, a world of illusions, a realm of illusions, endless illusions, vast illusions, immeasurable illusions, inconceivable illusions. Therefore she is called "woman." Shariputra, thus are the faults of desire.

Those are the reasons for going to evil destinies. Just like this, Shariputra, a person who is very skilled in performing illusions, enters the audience and displays various kinds of illusions. Similarly, Shariputra, the illusions of women are very subtle, merely seeing them can bind men, hearing them can bind men, being aware of them can bind and control men, singing can also control men, dancing can also control men, flirting can also control men, even crying, walking, coming, standing, sitting, and lying down, all postures can bind and control men. Just like this, Shariputra, a field of abundant rice, if a large hailstorm falls, it will be destroyed. Similarly, Shariputra, the hailstorm of women is also like that. If it falls on the field of men, all white dharmas will be completely destroyed. Shariputra, these are the faults of desires that lead to evil destinies, because all ignorant ordinary people do not understand, so they completely cling to their wives. Therefore, Shariputra, a wise Bodhisattva, recognizing these faults of desires, will generate two perceptions. Which two? Generating the perception of disliking bad men for all ignorant ordinary people, and generating the perception of respecting noble men for all noble beings. Having generated these two perceptions, he will think like this: I should walk the path of noble men, not the path of evil men. I should not walk the path of hell beings, not the path of animal realms, not the path of Yama's world. I should not walk the path of immoral conduct, I should not associate with immoral people, but I should associate with the wisdom of the Buddha, who is supreme, noble, venerable, and realizes all dharmas without obstruction. I should practice contrary to worldly customs, I should not follow worldly customs, I should roar the lion's roar, not the fox's cry. I should display the power of Garuda.
