Wrong view, wrong thought, wrong speech, wrong karmic end, wrong livelihood, wrong effort, wrong mindfulness, wrong concentration. These are the nine dharmas that cause obstruction. What are the nine? They are: Generating pervasive vexation, thinking, "He has harmed me." Generating pervasive vexation, thinking, "He is harming me." Generating pervasive vexation, thinking, "He will harm me." Generating pervasive vexation in the mind, thinking, "He has harmed my friend," "He is harming," "He will harm." Generating pervasive vexation, thinking, "He has done good to my enemy," "He is doing," "He will do." These are the ten dharmas that cause obstruction. What are the ten? They are the paths of the ten non-virtuous actions, namely: killing, taking what is not given, engaging in sexual misconduct, lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, idle chatter, covetousness, malice, and wrong view. Thus, Shariputra, all the pervasive activities associated with improper attention, dwelling in following and tasting those dharmas, being associated with perversion, arising pervasively, together with attachment and manifest clinging to views, all those actions of body, speech, and mind, together with the aggregates, are known by the Tathagata to be obstructions. Knowing them to be obstructions, he also teaches the truth as it is. These ten dharmas are those that cause obstruction. The Tathagata teaches the Dharma in order to pacify them, to bring them to peace, and to abandon them. The fearlessness of the Tathagata also makes all the retinue know, makes all the retinue pleased, makes the bodies of all the retinue calm, generates satisfaction in the minds of all the retinue, makes all the retinue joyful and exceedingly joyful, generates faith, is united with great compassion, is equal with suchness, is the very suchness, the suchness that is not other, the unchanging nature, the unwavering nature, the arising no

It is suchness itself. It is the nature of being indestructible. It is the nature of being without dispute, in the fearlessness of the Thus-Gone One, there is no dispute whatsoever. The fearlessness of the Thus-Gone One is without dispute, without contention. It is equal to suchness, equal to the essence of the Dharma realm. There is no obstruction in all the boundless realms of the world. Thus, the Thus-Gone One is immeasurable, countless, inconceivable, unmeasurable, unspeakable, endowed with all Dharmas, and with a mind truly seized by great compassion, teaches the Dharma in order to pacify and abandon the intervening Dharmas. Thus, Shariputra, the fearlessness of the Thus-Gone One is endless and limitless, to the extent that whoever desires the end of the fearlessness of the Thus-Gone One is like desiring the end of space. Bodhisattvas, having heard of the inconceivable fearlessness of the Thus-Gone One, generate great faith, believe, fully understand, are without hesitation, do not doubt, and generate perceptions of wonder and amazement. Shariputra, this is the third fearlessness of the Thus-Gone One. Because of being endowed with this fearlessness, the Thus-Gone One proceeds in the assembly, and no one can conform to the Dharma in the world. Furthermore, Shariputra, the Thus-Gone One With unsurpassed wisdom, that is, the wisdom of the Thus-Gone One, knows the path by which beings will certainly be liberated, which will lead to the liberation of the noble ones, and which will completely end suffering. The Thus-Gone One cannot be refuted by the world with its gods in a way that contradicts the Dharma, saying, "This is not the path to liberation." The path to liberation is one, what is that one? It is the one and only path that purifies all beings. There are two Dharmas of liberation, what are these two? They are tranquility and insight. There are three Dharmas of liberation, what are these three? They are emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness. There are four Dharmas of liberation, what are these four? They are mindfulness related to the body and related to feelings.
