Like this, householders, do you want to be liberated from the pain of wrong views? Like this, householders, do you want to be liberated from anger and holding grudges in your hearts? Like this, householders, do you want to be liberated from the fire of desire? Like this, householders, do you want to be liberated from the poison of hatred? Like this, householders, do you want to be liberated from the thorns of defilements? Like this, householders, do you want to be liberated from the wilderness of samsara? Householders, do you want to be liberated from these ten fears of samsara? Then, about five hundred householders, with one voice, pleaded to the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, we want to be liberated from the ten oppressions. What are the ten? Like this, oppressed by birth, oppressed by old age, oppressed by sickness, oppressed by death, oppressed by sorrow, oppressed by oppressed by lamentation, oppressed by suffering, oppressed by displeasure, oppressed by confusion, and from the oppression of samsara, Blessed One, we want to be liberated. Similarly, in the wilderness of samsara, all these ten dharmas should be fully explained. Then, the Blessed One said to those about five hundred householders: Householders, the eye does not want to be liberated. Why is that? The eye is without action, without movement; the eye does not think or discriminate. Therefore, householders, you should abide in the eye as also being without self. Householders, the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind do not want to be liberated. Why is that? The mind is without action, without movement; the mind does not think or discriminate. Therefore, householders, you should abide in the mind as also being without self. Householders, form wants to be liberated. Why is that? Form is without action, without movement; form does not think or discriminate. Therefore, householders, you should abide in form as also being without self. Householders, sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharma do not want to be liberated. Why is that? Until dharma, there is no action, no movement; dharma

does not think and does not discern. Therefore, householders, you should abide in the thought that even within the Dharma, there is no self. Householders, the aggregate of form does not desire liberation. Why is that? The aggregate of form is without action, without movement, the aggregate of form does not think and does not discern. Therefore, householders, you should abide in the thought that even in the aggregate of form, there is no self. Householders, the aggregates of feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness do not desire liberation. Why is that? The aggregate of consciousness is without action, without movement, the aggregate of consciousness does not think and does not discern. Therefore, householders, you should abide in the thought that even in the aggregate of consciousness, there is no self. Householders, the earth element does not desire liberation. Why is that? The earth element is without action, without movement, the earth element does not think and does not discern. Therefore, householders, you should abide in the thought that even in the earth element, there is no self. Householders, the water element, the fire element, the wind element, the space element, and the consciousness element do not desire liberation. Why is that? The consciousness element is without action, without movement, the consciousness element does not think and does not discern. Therefore, householders, you should abide in the thought that even in the consciousness element, there is no self. Thus, householders, all dharmas are not real, they arise from complete conceptualization, they depend on conditions, they are powerless, they are weak, they arise from conditions. If conditions exist, then dharmas can be established, if conditions do not exist, then dharmas cannot be established. Householders, all dharmas are merely designations, and in this, other than the cessation of the path and nirvana, there is no birth, aging, death, transmigration, or arising. Thus, householders, in this way, all dharmas are not real, they arise from conceptual imputation, they depend on conditions, they are powerless, they are weak, they arise from conditions, if conditions exist, then dharmas can become self, if conditions do not
