Householders, because they cannot be expressed through the path of sound, speech, tone, and words, therefore all dharmas are without letters. Householders, because there is no object, therefore all dharmas are without attachment. Householders, because they are the nature of peacefulness, therefore all dharmas are peaceful. Householders, because they are the nature of space, therefore all dharmas are all-pervasive. Householders, because they are not definitive arising, therefore all dharmas are truly abiding in emptiness. Householders, because there is no dwelling place, therefore all dharmas are unmoving. Householders, because of being separated from birth, destruction, and abiding, all dharmas are neither discarded nor added. Householders, because of being weak in nature, all dharmas depend on conditions. Householders, the eye is made of the four great elements, impermanent, unstable, not firm, weak, decaying, short-lived, unreliable, painful, with many diseases, and many sufferings. Householders, you should not dwell on that eye. Householders, the ear and nose and tongue and body and mind are made of the four great elements, impermanent, unstable, not firm, unreliable, without essence, decaying, diseased, painful, with many diseases, and many sufferings. Householders, you should not dwell on that mind. Furthermore, householders, you should be taught like this: This eye cannot withstand rubbing, like a bubble struck by a stone. This eye does not last long, like a bubble on water. This eye arises from karma, afflictions, and craving, like a mirage. This eye is naturally without essence, like a banana tree. This eye arises from perversion, like an illusion. This eye sees what is wrong and not true, like a dream. This eye depends on conditions, like an echo in a valley. This eye is universally manifested by the cataract of karma, like a cataract. This eye is the nature of becoming without mental disturbance, like a cloud. This eye is endowed with momentary destruction, like lightning. This eye has no owner, like the earth. This eye is without self, like water. This eye is without sentient beings, like fire. This eye is without life, like wind. This eye is without a person, like space. This eye is the basis of the great elements, which is not true. This eye is separated from self and what belongs to self.
