The Blessed One said: Ananda, what do you think of this? This is above Mount Sumeru, the king of mountains, and where do the gods of the No-Conflict Heaven, the Joyful Heaven, the Transformation Heaven, the Other-Controlled Transformation Heaven, the Brahma Host, the Brahma Attendants, the Great Brahma, and the gods up to the Akanishtha Heaven reside? He replied: Blessed One, the ripening of karma and the manifestation of karma are inconceivable. The Blessed One said: Ananda, the ripening of karma and the manifestation of karma are measurable. The merit, miraculous powers, and blessings of the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, are inconceivable, and no one can comprehend their limits, measure, or contemplate them. Otherwise, the realm of the Buddhas is inconceivable, and it should be distinguished as such. Thus, the merit done by sentient beings and the roots of virtue generated, merit, wisdom, miraculous powers, and wealth are inconceivable. They will all arise in that Buddha-field. He replied: Blessed One, I have no doubt, hesitation, or uncertainty about this. I am asking the Tathagata about this meaning in order to dispel the doubts, hesitations, and uncertainties of future sentient beings. The Blessed One said: Ananda, well done, well done! It is right for you to do so. Ananda, in that Happy Land, various kinds of rivers flow. There are great rivers that are one krosha wide. There are also ten krosas, twenty krosas, thirty krosas, forty krosas, fifty krosas, and even one hundred krosas, one thousand krosas wide. They are twelve krosas deep. All those rivers flow with fragrant water that emits various scents, and scattered with collections of precious flowers. They are also accompanied by various melodious and pleasing sounds. Ananda, from those great rivers, sounds more pleasing than celestial music with hundreds of thousands of kotis of branches arise. The sound that arises from those great rivers in this way is profound and all-

To be known, to be distinguished, not false, exceedingly blissful, lovable, delightful, pleasing, agreeable, never satisfied with hearing, in accordance with hearing, impermanent, peaceful, called selflessness, blissful to hear. These sounds resonate in the ears of those beings. Venerable Ananda, the banks of those great rivers are filled with jewel-incense trees, with branches, leaves, flowers, and various fruits hanging from them. There, those beings who wish to experience heavenly joy and play without disturbance on the banks of the rivers, when they enter those rivers, if they wish the water to be waist-deep, the water will be waist-deep. If they wish it to be navel-deep, or armpit-deep, or neck-deep, the water will be that deep, and heavenly joy will also arise. There, if any beings wish the water to become cold, it will become cool for them. If any wish it to become warm, it will become warm for them. If any wish it to become both cool and warm, the water will become both cool and warm for them, making them happy. Those great rivers are filled with the leaves of heavenly Tamala trees, agarwood, seasonal fragrances, spices, the essence of sandalwood, and water infused with excellent perfumes, flowing with heavenly Utpala flowers, lotuses, kumudas, and white lotuses, and flowers with intense fragrances. In each bay, there are swans, other birds, cranes, ducks, Karanda birds, parrots, mountain magpies, cuckoos, peacocks, Kalapingka birds, peacocks, and others making pleasing sounds. The flocks of birds emanated by the Tathagata dwell there, adorned by swans and swan kings, with comfortable banks, free from mud, and spread with golden sand. There, when those beings wish, "May our wish be completely fulfilled," their wish will be fulfilled in accordance with the Dharma.

Ananda, the pleasant sound that arises from that water makes one understand the assembly that is complete with everything in that Buddha-field. There, if some sentient beings dwelling in doubt wish that this sound not be heard by our ears, then it will not be heard by their divine ears. Whatever kind of sound they wish to hear, they will hear such a pleasant sound. For example, they hear the sound of the Buddha, the sound of the Dharma, the sound of the Sangha, the sound of going to the other shore, the sound of the earth, the sound of power, the sound of fearlessness, the sound of the Buddha's unmixed dharmas, the sound of clairvoyance, the sound of individual perfect knowledge, and the sound of emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, non-action, unbirth, non-arising, non-existence, and non-cessation, as well as the sound of peace, extreme peace, and near peace, and the sound of great love, great compassion, great joy, and great equanimity, as well as the forbearance of non-arising dharmas and the sound of fully obtaining the ground of empowerment. Having heard such sounds, they obtain great joy and supreme great joy. Sounds also arise that are endowed with solitude, endowed with detachment from desire, endowed with peace, endowed with cessation, endowed with Dharma, and endowed with the root of virtue for the complete accomplishment of enlightenment. Ananda, in the world-realm of Sukhavati, there is no name for non-virtue. There is no sound of obscuration. There is also no sound of falling into bad migrations and bad destinies. There is also no sound of suffering. Ananda, since there is no suffering in reality, and there is no sound of feeling that is neither pleasure nor pain, how could there be suffering and the sound of suffering? Ananda, in short, this designation is called the world-realm of Sukhavati, but it is not an exhaustive description. Ananda, if described in detail, even if one were to spend a kalpa or more than a kalpa exhaustively recounting the causes of happiness in the world-realm of Sukhavati, one would not be able to fathom the limits of those causes of happiness. Ananda, concerning the world
