When practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva, countless inconceivable beings, who are difficult to bring to fulfillment through their own karma, are placed in the unsurpassed, perfectly complete, and fully awakened state of enlightenment. To countless inconceivable Buddhas, the Bhagavat, with food, meals, bedding, medicines for healing illnesses, utensils, and all things related to comfort, they are treated with reverence and respect, regarded as teachers, served, and offered. As many sentient beings as can be generously given to, as well as judges, householders, ministers, royalty, Brahmins, and great beings like trees on the earth, are greatly pleased, but it is not easy to bring them to fulfillment merely by teaching with words. Similarly, they are placed in the position of the ruler of Jambudvipa, the position of a Chakravartin, the position of a guardian of the world, the position of extreme boundlessness, the position of complete Tushita, the position of extreme illusion, the position of dominion, the position of the king of gods, and the position of the Great Brahma. Countless inconceivable Buddhas, the Bhagavat, are treated with reverence and respect, regarded as teachers, served, and offered, and requests are made for the turning of the wheel of Dharma, but it is easy to bring them to fulfillment by teaching through their own karma. When a Bodhisattva practices the conduct of a Bodhisattva, for countless inconceivable eons, from the mouth emanates the extremely fragrant scent of sandalwood, surpassing the deeds of the gods, and from every pore emanates the fragrance of the Udumbara flower, and in all the worlds, forms that are beautiful, lovely, pleasing to behold, with excellent color, flourishing, supreme, and adorned with excellent marks and signs, and all the precious ornaments, clothes, and the manifestation of Dharma robes, as well as the manifestation of flowers, incense, burning incense, garlands, perfumes, umbrellas, victory banners, and streamers, and the manifestation of the sounds of musical instruments and songs, all emanate from every pore and from both hands.

And, drinks and, food and, chewing and, licking and, all manifestations of taste, enjoyment and, complete enjoyment manifested. All of these flow and arise from both hands, in such a way that virtue is perfectly accomplished. Ananda, in this way, the monk Dharma Arisen, when he practiced the bodhisattva conduct in the past, had reached the other shore of being in control of all resources. Thus it was said. The Blessed One said to the venerable Ananda as follows: Blessed One, what is the reason? Has the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Dharma Arisen attained the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, and entered into Nirvana? Or has he attained perfect complete enlightenment without entering Nirvana? Or has he attained perfect complete enlightenment when he appeared now, and now abides, lives, exists, and also teaches the Dharma? The Blessed One said: Ananda, the Tathagata is neither past nor future. The Tathagata, having attained the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, now abides, lives, exists, and also teaches the Dharma. From here to the west, after passing through hundreds of thousands of millions of kotis of Buddha-fields, in the world called Sukhavati, there is a Tathagata, Arhat, perfect complete Buddha, named Amitabha. He is surrounded and attended by immeasurable Bodhisattva Mahasattvas and infinite Shravakas. He possesses infinite perfect Buddha-fields. His light is immeasurable. He illuminates so many Buddha-fields, several hundred Buddha-fields, several thousand Buddha-fields, several hundred thousand Buddha-fields, several million Buddha-fields, several hundred million Buddha-fields, several thousand million Buddha-fields, several hundred million kotis of Buddha-fields.

It is not easy to fathom the extent to which it pervades. Venerable Ananda, however, to put it briefly, in the eastern direction, the buddhafields, as numerous as the grains of sand in the river Ganges, are always pervaded by the light of the Bhagavan Amitabha. Similarly, in the south, west, north, below, above, and in each of the intermediate directions, the buddhafields, as numerous as the grains of sand in the river Ganges, are always pervaded by the light of the Bhagavan Tathagata Amitabha. Except for those instances where the Buddhas, the Bhagavans, through the power of their former aspirations, bless the light to pervade the world systems to the extent of one cubit, two cubits, three, four, five, ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty cubits, ten yojanas, a hundred yojanas, a thousand yojanas, a hundred thousand yojanas, up to countless millions of billions of nayutas of yojanas. Venerable Ananda, there is no analogy by which to measure the light of the Bhagavan Tathagata Amitabha. Venerable Ananda, for that reason, the Tathagata is called Amitabha, that is, immeasurable light, immeasurable radiance, limitless light, unobstructed light, unimpeded light, constantly emitting light, the light of divine splendor, the light of the king of unobstructed rays, the light that causes joy, the light that causes supreme joy, the light that causes satisfaction, the light that is visible, the light that is connected, the inconceivable light, the incomparable light, the light that overwhelms the power of humans and gods, the light that overwhelms the sun and moon and makes them dim, the light that overwhelms the world protectors, Indra, Brahma, the Pure Abodes, the Great Lord, and all the gods and makes them dim. In short, it goes beyond all lights.
