Afflictions are not singular. The three near afflictions are sudden, not truly existent, but falsely accumulated and non-existent. The mind is neither mixed with all afflictions, nor mixed with complete purity. Why is that? Because the mind is non-dual, it cannot be made into two. Whatever its nature is, that is complete purity. Whoever knows this way will not be defiled by afflictions. The mind is not defiled by afflictions internally, externally, or in between, and it has no object of focus, except when the mind arises from the aggregation of object of focus, continuity, and conditions. Even the arising does not appear to be true, and the mind cannot know in the ten directions. The mind does not see the mind. The mind and the object of focus are not mixed, and the object of focus is not mixed with the mind. The mind is not fully connected with all causes and conditions, and the causes and conditions are not fully connected with the mind. All phenomena are only mind, and they are associated with the mind. If those phenomena that are associated with the mind do not know or see each other, then what need is there to speak of those that are not associated with the mind? Ultimately, the mind is neither associated with anything, nor unassociated. Why is that? Because no phenomenon is associated or unassociated with any other phenomenon, all phenomena are inherently peaceful. Self-nature is neither associated nor unassociated. Whatever the self-nature of phenomena is, that is nature. Whatever is nature, that is absence of self-nature. However, through teaching and exposition, it is said that all phenomena have become self-nature and nature, but this is only a nominal designation. For phenomena, there is no self-nature and nature. The nature of phenomena is absence of self-nature and emptiness. Whatever is absence of self-nature and emptiness is a single characteristic, and because of no characteristic, the characteristic becomes completely pure, so one should not nominally designate absence of self-nature or emptiness by characteristic. Just as one should not nominally designate absence of self-nature or emptiness by characteristic, all phenomena

Everything cannot be established by its own nature. For selflessness and emptiness, there is no complete defilement or complete purification. The nature of all phenomena is such that whatever the nature of all phenomena is, it does not abide in complete defilement or complete purification, does not closely abide, does not completely abide. If all the immeasurable and adorned phenomena do not abide, do not completely abide, do not utterly abide, then how can sentient beings become completely deluded? If there is no complete delusion there, then alas! Look at the abiding of the world, which is completely deluded by a complete delusion that is not real. Alas! This abiding of the world enters the wheel of complete delusion that is not real, but although it enters, it does not enter anywhere. Although it does not enter, it is bound by the bonds of space. Alas! Although these sentient beings completely enter the wheel of space, they are not established as the wheel of space. Although they are completely deluded by a great complete delusion, there is no ignorance here, and no complete delusion. Immeasurable and adorned sentient beings, look at how they are obscured by the cataract of ignorance, unable to fully know or understand these phenomena, and completely engage in disputes. Immeasurable and adorned, whoever does not completely engage in disputes, like this, they cannot know because of complete delusion, they only see. Those who do not completely engage will not become completely pure, nor will they engage in the completely pure roots of virtue, therefore they do not completely engage. Immeasurable and adorned, the distinctions of the Tathagata's intended meaning, like you who have long practiced in the complete solitude of virtuous dharmas, cannot understand it themselves, nor is it widely known by others. The Tathagata said that those who completely engage will not become completely pure, so what do they engage in? They engage in non-virtue. Whatever has non-virtue does not exist. Whatever does not exist, for it, there is no distinction of engaging or not engaging. Those who engage in virtue belong to distinctions. Those who belong to distinctions have shown it.
