Son of the lineage, there is an incense called "Unsurpassed by Others" that arises from the edge of the ocean. If it is applied to a drum or conch shell, its sound will defeat all other retinues. Son of the lineage, there is a black agarwood called "Lotus Heart" that arises from the shore of Lake Anavatapta. Even a sesame seed-sized amount of its fragrance will fill the entire Jambudvipa. Any sentient being who smells that incense will denounce sin and strongly obtain the mind of discipline. Son of the lineage, there is an incense called "Possessing Light" that arises from the King of Mountains, the Snowy One. If its fragrance is smelled, those sentient beings will transform into minds free from desire. I will teach the Dharma on how they will attain the samadhi called "Mandala Free from Dust." Son of the lineage, there is an incense called "Heart of the Ocean" that arises from the world of Rakshasas. It arises for the enjoyment of a Chakravartin, and as soon as it is burned, the fourfold army of the Chakravartin king will also abide in the expanse of the sky. Son of the lineage, there is an incense called "Discernment" that arises from the abode of the gods of Good Dharma. As soon as it is burned, the gods will remember the sweet fragrance of the Buddha. Son of the lineage, in the abode of the King of Gods, Rab Tsemé, there is an incense called "Pure Treasury." As soon as it is burned, all the sons of the gods of Tsemé will go to the presence of the King of Gods, Rab Tsemé. After they arrive there, the King of Gods, Rab Tsemé, will speak of the Dharma. Son of the lineage, in the abode of Tushita, there is an incense called "Sindhuvara." If the smoke of that incense is brought before the Dharma seat where the Bodhisattva Bound by One Life sits, a great cloud of incense will fill the entire expanse of Dharma, and in all the mandalas of the Tathagata's retinue, a rain of great Dharma clouds endowed with various ornaments will abundantly fall. Son of the lineage, in the abode of the King of Gods, Rab Trul Ga, there is an incense called "Captivating."

Therefore, if incense is burned in the place where the king of the gods is extremely delighted, an inconceivable rain of Dharma clouds will fall for seven days. Son of good family, I only know this method of blending incense. I can slightly show that the Bodhisattva transcends all expectations of the immaculate world, is free from the bonds of the demon of afflictions, completely transcends all continuations of the path of samsara, has the form of wisdom's illusion, acts with a body of form, is not defiled by all the worlds, has the nature of non-attachment, the mandala of wisdom that is immaculate without obscuration, the realm of unobstructed wisdom and the object of focus, does not abide in all the bases of phenomena, but the behavior of those who wander in the base of samsara and all places, or declare merits, or completely narrate the gate of pure conduct of discipline, or narrate conduct without fault, or be able to show the streams of body, speech, and mind without harmful conduct. Go, son of good family, in this very southern direction, there is a city called 'Multi-storied Mansion'. There lives a wise man named 'Heroic Listener', go to him and ask how a Bodhisattva should train in the conduct of a Bodhisattva, and how one should be diligent. Then, the merchant's son Norzang bowed his head to the two feet of the incense merchant Lonsö Utpala, circumambulated the incense merchant Lonsö Utpala hundreds of thousands of times to the right, and looked at him again and again, and then departed from the presence of the incense merchant Lonsö Utpala. Then, the merchant's son Norzang, when entering the road to go to the city of Multi-storied Mansion, examined the ups and downs of the road, the levelness, the distance, the dustiness, the non-dustiness, the comfort, the discomfort, the narrowness, the absence of obstacles, the crookedness, the non-crookedness, and thought to himself: 'This going of mine to the presence of that virtuous friend is the cause of diligence on the path of a Bodhisattva.'

May it transform! May it transform into the cause of diligence on the path of transcendence! May it transform into the cause of the path of benefiting sentient beings! May it transform to completely reverse all sentient beings from the precipice of love and hatred, high and low, to transform all sentient beings from unequal diligence, to completely pacify the dust of afflictions of all sentient beings, to cut down the stumps, thorns, rubble, and gravel of various non-virtuous views of all sentient beings, to be devoted to the unobstructed realm of Dharma, and to transform into the cause of unimpededly transporting to the palace of omniscience. Why is that? The virtuous friend is the source of all virtuous dharmas. Because omniscience itself depends on the virtuous friend. Thinking and contemplating in this way, the difficult-to-endure conduct eventually leads to the city with stacked houses, where the listener, the hero, thoroughly cultivates and seeks. At the gate of a great city, on the shore of a vast ocean, the listener, the hero, is surrounded by hundreds of thousands of merchants and hundreds of thousands of various creatures, all eager to hear various stories, recounting the stories of the ocean, showing the ocean of Buddha's qualities to sentient beings. Having seen this, he went to where the listener, the hero, was. Having arrived, he prostrated with his head at the feet of the listener, the hero, circumambulated the listener, the hero, hundreds of thousands of times to the right, and then sat down in front of the listener, the hero, and said with folded hands: "Noble one, I have generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, but I do not know how a Bodhisattva should train in the conduct of a Bodhisattva, and how to be diligent. I have heard that the Noble One gives instructions and guidance to Bodhisattvas, so please, Noble One, instruct me on how a Bodhisattva should train in the conduct of a Bodhisattva, and how to be diligent." He said: "Son of good family, you have thus generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, wisdom..."
