wishes to act in this way. He wishes to subdue those who are ensnared by the bonds of wrong views with the weapon of wisdom. He wishes to show the gate of liberation to those who are caught in the cycle of the three realms. He wishes to show the path of happiness to those who are manifestly inclined towards the unpleasant. He wishes to bestow great comfort upon those who are tormented by the thieves of afflictions. He wishes to extend a helping hand to those who are frightened and terrified by the abyss of the lower realms. He wishes to show the city of nirvana to those who are tormented by the executioners of the aggregates. He wishes to show the arising through the noble path to those who are completely encircled by the serpent of the realms. He wishes to dispel with the light of wisdom those who dwell in the empty village of the sense bases. He wishes to lead sentient beings who have entered into evil non-Buddhist paths into the correct path. He wishes to show the true virtuous friend to those who have fallen into the hands of non-virtuous friends. He wishes to make those who are manifestly fond of the realm of childish dharma rejoice greatly in the noble dharma. He wishes to uplift those who are manifestly delighted in the house of samsara and lead them into the palace of omniscience. Sons of good family, thus, this noble being, with such wisdom to completely protect sentient beings, constantly seeks to purify the generation of the mind of enlightenment. He is without weariness in order to completely accomplish the great vehicle. He is not satisfied by drinking from all the clouds of dharma.

Such beings who make aspirations in this way are rare. Moreover, those who have rightly entered into the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, gathering the Buddha's teachings with such diligence, seeking the bodhisattva's path with such strong faith, completely purifying the bodhisattva's conduct with such effort, serving virtuous friends with such respect, acting as if their heads were on fire, not contradicting the words of virtuous friends, diligently acting with steadfast superior intention, accordingly accepting the instructions of virtuous friends, thereby perfecting the limbs of enlightenment, not seeking profit, respect, and fame, not contradicting the bodhisattva's intention, completely abandoning without hesitation family, possessions, the joy and happiness of desires, parents, relatives, and all things, thereby perfectly seeking the companionship of bodhisattvas, not cherishing body and life, thus generating strong faith in omniscience itself—such beings are extremely rare! Sons of good family, how much this one has grown, how much he has obtained and understood, that which other bodhisattvas cannot obtain in hundreds of millions of eons, namely, the conduct of a bodhisattva and the perfection of aspirations, or understanding, or approaching the enlightenment of the Buddha, or purifying the Buddha's field, or maturing beings, or taming, or entering the wisdom of the realm of dharma, or perfectly accomplishing the perfections, or extensively performing the network of conduct, or perfectly accomplishing the manifestation of aspirations, or rightly overcoming the works of demons, or serving virtuous friends, or manifestly accomplishing and completely purifying all the conduct of a bodhisattva, or manifestly

The power to accomplish perfection does not truly arise. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Maitreya praised the merits and goodness of the merchant's son Norzang, and based on this, hundreds of thousands of beings strengthened their thoughts on the limbs of enlightenment. He said to the merchant's son Norzang: Son of good family, in this way, for the benefit and happiness of all the world, for the sake of saving all sentient beings, and for the sake of thoroughly obtaining all the Buddha's teachings, it is excellent, excellent to generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment! Son of good family, since you have generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment in this way, you have obtained what you should obtain well. You have obtained a human body well. You have lived well in the world of life. You have pleased the appearance of the Buddha. You have seen the virtuous friend Manjushri well. Your mind stream has become a good vessel. You are manifestly moistened by the roots of virtue. You have relied well on the white Dharma. You have thoroughly cultivated great faith and virtuous thoughts well. You are well remembered by all the Buddhas. Son of good family, you are well held by the virtuous friend. Why is that? Son of good family, the mind of enlightenment is like the seed of all the Buddha's teachings. Like a field, it causes the white Dharma of all beings to increase. Like the earth, all the world relies on it. Like water, it purifies all the defilements of afflictions. Like the wind, all the world is impermanent. Like fire, it burns all the grass of clinging. Like the sun, it illuminates the places of all sentient beings. Like the moon, it makes the mandala of white Dharma completely expand. Like a lamp, it illuminates the Dharma. Like the eyes, it can completely see equality and inequality. Having gone to the city of all-knowingness.
