To despise and be negligent, and to teach the Dharma for the sake of fame and profit, is the work of Mara. To teach the vast Dharma to those who are not qualified is the work of Mara. Not hearing the Paramitas, and even if hearing them, misunderstanding them, and after misunderstanding, becoming lazy, and after being lazy, becoming discouraged, and after becoming discouraged, the mind and mental factors that correspond to the vast path of Bodhi do not arise, is the work of Mara. Relying on evil friends, completely abandoning virtuous spiritual friends, desiring the vehicle of Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, not rejoicing in the place of birth, desiring Nirvana, being separated from desire, and the mind attaining peace, is the work of Mara. Having thoughts of hatred towards Bodhisattvas, speaking unpleasant words, creating obstacles to realization, seeking faults of delusion, and looking with unpleasant eyes, is the work of Mara. Abandoning the excellent Dharma, slandering when hearing Sutras that have not been heard before, disliking listening to the teachings of other Dharma speakers and despising them, despising and being negligent, praising oneself, and slandering others, is the work of Mara. Seeking worldly prophecies, liking self-made things such as various letters and various grains, remembering the stories of Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, teaching and hiding profound doctrines, telling various stories, teaching profound Dharma to those who are not qualified, not seeking the path of Bodhi, and abiding in the continuum of evil paths, is the work of Mara. To attend to, befriend, respect, and serve those who are liberated, who have crossed over, and who have passed away; but not to attend to, befriend, respect, or serve those who are not liberated, who have not crossed over, and who have not passed away; not to bring them to maturity, and falling into pride, not yielding to anyone, and causing arrogance to increase completely, being angry with sentient beings, not seeking the wisdom of the Dharma, not protecting the treasure of wisdom, the mind always being rude, difficult to satisfy, and difficult to entreat, is the work of Mara. O sons of the Victorious Ones, these ten are the Maras of the Bodhisattvas.

These are the activities of Mara. Abandoning them completely, the Bodhisattvas will seek the Dharma of the Buddhas. O sons of the Victorious Ones, these ten are the reversals of the activities of Mara for the Bodhisattvas. What are the ten? They are as follows: Completely abandoning all pride in order to honor virtuous friends is a reversal of the activities of Mara. Not praising or extolling oneself is a reversal of the activities of Mara. Having faith in the profound Dharma of the Buddhas and not abandoning it is a reversal of the activities of Mara. Not allowing the mind of omniscience to completely deteriorate is a reversal of the activities of Mara. Diligently engaging in the manner of the profound Dharma and abiding in mindfulness is a reversal of the activities of Mara. Abiding in the treasury of the Bodhisattvas and completely seeking all Dharmas is a reversal of the activities of Mara. Not becoming weary of repeatedly listening to and speaking truthfully is a reversal of the activities of Mara. The thought of seeking refuge and assistance from all the Tathagatas who abide in all the realms of the world is a reversal of the activities of Mara. In practice, remembering the blessings of all the Buddhas and genuinely receiving them with faith is a reversal of the activities of Mara. Manifestly practicing the roots of virtue of all the Bodhisattva friends without duality is a reversal of the activities of Mara. O sons of the Victorious Ones, these ten are the reversals of the activities of Mara for the Bodhisattvas, and they will cause the Bodhisattvas to transcend all the activities of Mara. O sons of the Victorious Ones, these ten are what the Bodhisattvas should see of the Buddhas. What are the ten? They are as follows: One should see without attachment the Buddha who has manifestly attained perfect enlightenment abiding in the world, and manifestly practice the Buddha of aspiration, and have faith in the Buddha of karmic maturation, and follow the Buddha of blessings, and comprehend the Buddha of nirvana, and completely devote oneself to the Buddha of the Dharmadhatu, and abide in the Buddha of the mind, and not abide in the Buddha of samadhi, and the self-luminous nature.
