Then, the auspicious one born into the Tathagata lineage said to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Samantabhadra, "Noble son, how should a Bodhisattva Mahasattva understand that seeing, hearing, and associating with the Tathagatas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas, will cause the roots of virtue to arise?" Having said this, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Samantabhadra said to the auspicious Bodhisattva Mahasattva born into the Tathagata lineage, "Noble son, in that case, seeing, hearing, and associating with the Tathagatas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas, will cause the roots of virtue to arise. A Bodhisattva Mahasattva should understand this through the mind of accomplishing the inexhaustible, being meaningful, without obstacles, achieving the ultimate, being non-deceptive, perfecting all intentions, the inexhaustible continuum of engaging in all conditioned phenomena, and attaining the wisdom of the unconditioned. The wisdom of the Tathagata will arise, the ultimate limit of the endless expanse of the future will be reached, and all the supreme aspects of self-origination will be attained. Noble son, for example, if someone were to consume a diamond essence, no matter how small the amount, that diamond essence cannot be digested. It is not consumed by demons, transcends all places, and arises in the lower direction. Noble son, why is that? Because the dharma of that diamond is unmixed. Noble son, similarly, the root of virtue generated in relation to the Tathagata, no matter how small, completely transcends all places of affliction that engage in conditioned phenomena, and the wisdom of the Tathagata will become the ultimate of the unconditioned. Noble son, why is that? Because the dharma of the root of virtue generated in relation to the Tathagata is unmixed. Noble son, furthermore, for example, a pile of grass and leaves is

Even if there is only a tiny spark, if a spark the size of a mustard seed is placed there, the pile of grass and leaves will burn effortlessly. What is the reason for that? It is because that is the nature of fire, being prepared to burn. O prince, similarly, the spark of the root of virtue generated towards the Tathagata, no matter how small, will burn away the entire pile of grass and leaves of all afflictions, and will accomplish up to the ultimate attainment of Buddhahood. O prince, what is the reason for that? It is because the root of virtue generated towards the Tathagata is extremely ultimate. O prince, furthermore, for example, on the king of mountains, the snowy mountain, there is a great king of medicine called "Pleasing to See." Whichever sentient beings see that king of medicine, their eyes will become completely pure. Whichever sentient beings hear the sound of the wind blowing on that king of medicine, their ears will become completely pure. Whichever sentient beings smell the fragrance, their noses will become completely pure. Whichever sentient beings taste it, their tongues will become completely pure. Whichever sentient beings touch it, their bodies will become completely pure. Whichever sentient beings go around it, their illnesses will also be completely pacified. O prince, similarly, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, is the unsurpassed great king of medicine, who also nourishes all sentient beings in every way. Whichever sentient beings see the form body of the Tathagata, the root of virtue of seeing will become the cause for the complete purification of the divine eye. Whichever sentient beings hear the name of the Tathagata, it will become the cause for the complete purification of the ears. Whichever sentient beings smell the fragrance of the Tathagata's discipline, it will become the cause for the complete purification of the divine nose.

will become the cause of vast and complete purification. Any sentient beings who remember the Tathagata, those who remember the Tathagata with single-minded purity, will become the cause of seeing the perfectly complete Buddha. Any sentient beings who make offerings to the place where the Tathagata resides, or to the stupa of the Tathagata, their roots of virtue will also pacify all the diseases of afflictions and become the cause of attaining the bliss of the noble ones. Hey, prince, you should believe and understand that some sentient beings, even if they see or hear the Tathagata, still revolve in samsara due to the obscurations of karma. Even if they do not trust the Tathagata, I say that the root of virtue they see is meaningful until complete nirvana. Hey, prince, the arising of the root of virtue from seeing, hearing, and associating with the Tathagata should be understood by the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas as the cause of abandoning all non-virtuous dharmas, manifesting all virtuous dharmas, and making them complete. Hey, prince, furthermore, it is impossible to fully understand the Tathagata through all kinds of different examples. In any case, it should not be used as an example. Why is that? Hey, prince, the Tathagatas are far beyond all the actions of the mind and are inconceivable. However, in order to completely satisfy the thoughts of sentient beings, the Tathagatas allow Bodhisattvas to show by example, but not to take it seriously. Hey, prince, it should be known that such kinds of Dharma categories are the secret places of the Tathagata. It is called difficult for all the worlds to know. It is called possessing the seal of the Tathagata. It is called expressing the great power of wisdom. It is called showing the lineage of the Tathagata. It is called perfectly accomplishing all Bodhisattvas. It is called not being able to be taken away by all beings. It is called completely and certainly following the realm of the Tathagata. Mind
