Just as countless masses of water fall from the clouds into the great ocean, and even more than that, from the place of the great Naga king Gangchen Lake, called the Cloud of Non-Distinction, countless masses of water fall into the great ocean, a great surge of water appears, like the color of blue lapis lazuli. This happens very often, and although all the great oceans are filled by the great force of water, the great ocean does not exceed its boundaries. O son of the Victorious One, the great ocean is thus immeasurable with masses of water, and just as it is immeasurable with masses of water, it is also immeasurable with masses of jewels, immeasurable with the abodes of sentient beings, and immeasurable with the forms of the bodies of great sentient beings. O son of the Victorious One, what do you think of this? Although the great ocean is immeasurable, the glorious Bodhisattva, born into the lineage of the Tathagata, said: O son of the Victorious One, the great ocean is so vast that it is difficult to describe even with similes. The Bodhisattva Samantabhadra said: O son of the Victorious One, the great ocean is so immeasurable that it does not even approach one hundredth part of the immeasurable realm of the Tathagata's ocean of wisdom, nor one thousandth part, nor even as a cause. O son of the Victorious One, however, sentient beings, according to their thoughts, can take up and understand what is near, and from the great ocean, they can take an example of the realm of the Tathagata. There is no example for the realm of the Tathagata's ocean of wisdom. O son of the Victorious One, the realm of the Tathagata's ocean of wisdom is beyond examples. O son of the Victorious One, such is the realm of the Tathagata's ocean of wisdom: from the arising of the first thought, all the practices of the Bodhisattva are continuously and diligently cultivated, and thus it can be understood immeasurably. By not cutting off the Dharma of the aspects of enlightenment and the lineage of the Three Jewels, it can also be understood immeasurably with masses of jewels. By closely attending to all those in training, those beyond training, and solitary Buddhas, and by the abodes of beings, it can also be immeasurable.
