What does it mean? In this regard, the Bodhisattva thinks like this: The nature of my body and, the nature of existence, all of those, will eventually disappear. The body will also pass away, and the world is also large, and when these beggars also appear, one must obtain meaning from meaninglessness. Therefore, even if some Bodhicitta arises because of these reasons, one will not regret performing offerings and giving, this is called the Bodhisattva's outer and inner giving. So, what is the Bodhisattva's giving of everything? Here, the Bodhisattva is granted the throne of a Chakravartin king, possessing all happiness, and in this situation, some beggars come before him, saying like this: We have heard the beautiful name of your virtue and merit, from villages and cities, regions and lands, and many royal residences, we think that you will definitely fulfill our wishes, so we have come here, compassionate one, please fulfill our wishes. Some say: We need the seven treasures. Some say: We need the four continents. Some say: We need the prince. Some say: We need the king's two eyes. Some say: We need the king's two hands. Some say: We need the king's two feet. Some say: We need the king's flesh. Some say: We need the king's blood. Some say: We need the king's head. Some say: We need the king's heart. In response, the Bodhisattva thinks like this: Separated from all lovely and unlovely things, even becoming fragments, If one cannot fulfill the wishes of any sentient being, now, with this body of mine that will eventually separate, in order to shatter the clinging minds of those sentient beings, let them fulfill their wishes. Do not generate Bodhicitta in a place of fabricated Dharma nature. Therefore, even if all of these are given away, one will not regret generating even a single bit of Bodhicitta because of it. For any sentient being

Furthermore, not acting without order, this is the abandonment of all Bodhisattvas! The Sutra called "Buddha's Excellent Severance," a very extensive and great scripture, chapter twenty-eight. What is the Bodhisattva's abandonment of the past? It is when a Bodhisattva, a Buddha, a Bhagavan, hears about the conduct of past Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and listens to and hears all the perfections of past Buddhas and Bhagavans, they do not become attached to any of them, they do not separate from them, they enter into them without any object of focus, they do not conceptualize, they do not discriminate, they do not fully discriminate, they do not aspire, they do not become attached, they do not cling, they do not abide with a mind of reliance. Even if they obtain such dream-like dharmas, they do not generate the thought that those roots of virtue are without essence, nor do they regard those roots of virtue as something to rely upon. However, in order to guide beings who can rely on them, and in order to fully ripen the Buddhadharma, they speak, explain, and teach. When examining the nature of past dharmas, no trace is found in the east, nor is any trace found in the south, west, or north. No trace is found in the northeast, southeast, southwest, or northwest directions, nor in the directions below or above. Therefore, one thinks that whatever has not been abandoned is, in fact, abandonment. O sons of the Victorious Ones! This is the Bodhisattva's abandonment of the past. What is the Bodhisattva's abandonment of the future? It is when a Bodhisattva listens to the conduct of future Buddhas and Bhagavans, they do not grasp at them in terms of signs or clinging to them as real entities. They do not strive for other world realms, they do not seek, they do not aspire with a mind of desire, they do not gather their minds towards them, they do not experience, they do not aspire, they do not abandon the roots of virtue in them, they do not engage in the roots of virtue in them, nor do they cut off the continuity of their conduct. However, through that object of focus, Buddhahood is accomplished.

In order to become a giver, one gathers the thoughts of sentient beings and completely gathers the Dharma. That Dharma does not abide in a place, does not abide in a direction, is not inside, is not outside, is not far away. Nor is it near. Thinking in this way, one should never use it anywhere or anytime. This thought is abandoning the future. O sons of the Buddhas! What then is the present giving of a Bodhisattva? O sons of the Buddhas! Here, a Bodhisattva hears of the gods of the four great king's retinues, the Thirty-three, the Yama, the Tushita, the Nirmāṇarati, the Paranirmita-vaśavartin, the Brahma, the Brahma-pāriṣadya, the Brahma-purohita, the Mahābrahmā, the Ābhāsvara, the Parīttābha, the Apramāṇābha, the Ābhāsa, the Śubhakṛtsna, the Parīttaśubha, the Apramāṇaśubha, the Śubhakṛtsna, the Bṛhatphala, the Asañjñāsattva, the Avṛha, the Sudṛśa, the Sudarśana, the Akaniṣṭha gods, as well as the perfections of the Śrāvakas and the Pratyekabuddhas. Having heard these, he does not become confused, does not become very confused, does not become extremely confused, does not become disheartened, does not become completely disheartened, does not become utterly disheartened, does not become very disheartened, does not become dejected. In this way, with wisdom, he makes all things belonging to the aggregate of formations appear like a dream. He thinks thus: 'What should be given does not belong to anyone.' In order to avert the path of falling into the lower realms, and in order to accomplish all the Buddha's teachings, he teaches the Dharma, but he has no attachment to these, so that the Bodhisattva's path may be manifested. This is called present giving. What then is the Bodhisattva's supreme giving? Here, a Bodhisattva says to countless sentient beings who have no eyes, no ears, no noses, no tongues, and no bodies: 'Please give us what we do not have, and make us complete.'
