It is not possible to not share. When enjoying those things, one should generate this thought: "In this body, there dwell eighty kinds of various insects. Those insects also become happy because of the happiness of my body, and they suffer because of the suffering of my body." Thus, whatever one enjoys, one gives it away with a mind free from stinginess, so that those insects do not die and so that they may be happy. Furthermore, one thinks thus: "For a long time, I have been attached to food and the comfort of the body. Now I must become detached from attachment to the body." This is called giving. What is the complete giving of a Bodhisattva? Here, for a Bodhisattva, food or drink or things to eat or things to chew or things to lick or things to drink or things to suck or things to taste or clothes or garlands or ointments or ornaments, whatever it may be, something that if used, one will live, and if not used, one will die, is near at hand. At that time, a beggar comes, and even if it is completely exhausted and nothing is left, the Bodhisattva thinks thus: "In those previous ends, I died of hunger, and I could not reach the goal, and it was of no benefit to anyone." Thus, gradually, it is the same as the nature of things previously experienced, and one dies with equanimity, and if those sentient beings also become happy, then what I should obtain is well obtained. Even if I exhaust these things, even if I reach the end of death, I will make sentient beings live. This giving is complete giving. What is the inner giving of a Bodhisattva? Here, a Bodhisattva dwells flourishing and well, with a beautiful form, pleasing to look at, with a radiant complexion, rich and endowed, having bathed and anointed well, having adorned himself well with garlands and ornaments, wearing new clothes, having been crowned as king in the four continents of the world, possessing the seven precious things. In front of such a person, some beggars come and say this: "We are afflicted by disease, we are old and worn out, we are tormented by suffering, the illness is severe, there is no care, we are near death. If from your body...

Either a hand, or a foot, or flesh, or blood, or a head or brains, or bones or legs, take whatever anyone needs. If you give your body to us without hesitation to the king, this body will make us rise from this disease. When they say this, O sons of the king, the Bodhisattva here thinks like this: This kind of body, even if it becomes like that through the Dharma, has not benefited anyone. Now, with this kind of Dharma-natured body, let these sentient beings be happy. Thus, there is no regret even for a moment in generating the mind of enlightenment, this is called inner giving. What is the external giving of the Bodhisattva? Here, the Bodhisattva, just like before, is widely empowered, abides in the position of a universal monarch, rules the four continents, possesses the seven precious things and all the instruments of happiness, and is initially manifestly empowered. In front of such a one, some beggars come and say this: We are poor! We are destitute! We are very miserable! We have no wealth! You possess all the instruments of happiness, please give us the kingdom of the universal monarch of the four continents, and do not exercise power over this kingdom later, so that we may be happy. When they say this, the Bodhisattva thinks like this: All perfections will eventually come to an end, and at that time no one's wishes can be completely satisfied. Now I will immediately satisfy the wishes of these sentient beings. Thus, because of this, giving without any regret even for a moment in generating the mind of enlightenment is called external giving. What is the inner and outer giving of the Bodhisattva? Here, the Bodhisattva is empowered in the position of a universal monarch in that way, possesses all the instruments of happiness, is extremely precious, and in front of such a one, some beggars come and say this: You have experienced the rule of a universal monarch before, but we have not experienced virtue, please give us the kingdom of the universal monarch, and you should be our attendant and servant.
