Generating the mind of enlightenment. For example, in order to manifestly awaken and know, through the great lineage of wisdom, the distinctions of actions that are with a superior, actions that are without superior, actions that are with remainder, actions that are equal, and actions that are unequal, bodhisattvas generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. For example, in order to manifestly awaken and know, through the great lineage of wisdom, actions that abide, actions that do not abide, actions that are common, actions that are uncommon, actions that are limitless, actions that are boundless, actions that are unmixed, virtuous actions, non-virtuous actions, worldly actions, actions that transcend the world, and all the distinctions of actions, bodhisattvas generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. For example, in order to know, without obstruction, all the obscurations of actions that are known, actions that are unknown, actions that are great, actions that are middling, and actions that are immeasurable, and in order to manifestly awaken to the liberation of the Buddha, bodhisattvas generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. For example, in order to thoroughly engage with actions that are completely pure, actions that are completely afflicted, actions that are vast, actions that are small, actions that are completely connected, actions that are completely unconnected, actions that are subtle, actions that are coarse, and all the various ways in which actions of the realm of sentient beings occur, and in order for one sentient being to manifestly awaken to ten kinds of actions that are vast and boundless, bodhisattvas generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. For example, in order to manifestly awaken by completely realizing and knowing that all the networks of actions—actions that have become dense, actions that have conjunction, actions that are small, actions that possess mindfulness, actions that possess a collection of causes, actions that arise from a collection of conditions—are equality, bodhisattvas generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment.

O sons of the Victorious Ones, let alone those various previous examples. O sons of the Victorious Ones, here, a certain person arises, and with just one aspiration of his, he becomes aware of the aspirations of sentient beings belonging to countless world realms in the eastern direction. In this way, by fully knowing each and every aspiration, even if countless eons are exhausted in the eastern direction, the various afflictions of sentient beings cannot be exhausted. Similarly, after that, a second person arises, and so on, until the tenth person arises. The various afflictions that those nine people fully know for countless eons are fully known by just one aspiration. In this way, by fully knowing each and every aspiration, as described above, the various afflictions of the ten directions, which are transmitted from one to another, may possibly be exhausted, but the root of virtue of a bodhisattva who first generates the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment cannot be exhausted. Why is that? O sons of the Victorious Ones, it is not for the purpose of fully knowing the various afflictions of just that many sentient beings that bodhisattvas generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, but rather for the purpose of fully knowing all the immeasurable afflictions of all sentient beings belonging to all world realms. Therefore, bodhisattvas generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. In this way, it is for the purpose of fully knowing the wisdom that manifests the light and heavy afflictions that bodhisattvas generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. In this way, it is for the purpose of fully knowing the dormant afflictions, the afflictions that pervade the mind, the afflictions of all sentient beings, and the purification and establishment that bodhisattvas generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. In this way, it is for the purpose of making the immeasurable and various afflictions of one sentient being without autonomy

In order to fully understand the wisdom of completely cutting off past afflictions, Bodhisattvas generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. For example, in order to fully understand the afflictions of all sentient beings and the various kinds of discriminations, Bodhisattvas generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. For example, in order to fully understand the wisdom of completely cutting off the afflictions dwelling in ignorance, the afflictions associated with existence, and the afflictions that connect all continuities of existence, Bodhisattvas generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. For example, in order to fully understand the wisdom of completely cutting off the afflictions caused by desire, the anger caused by hatred, the obscuration caused by delusion, the afflictions of equanimity, and all afflictions with their roots, Bodhisattvas generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. For example, in order to fully comprehend and fully understand the afflictions of clinging to self, attachment to actions of self, afflictions aroused by pride, afflictions connected by pride, and all afflictions without exception, Bodhisattvas generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. For example, in order to fully understand the wisdom of the afflictions that arise from improper attention, the afflictions rooted in conceptualization, the discriminations of afflictions that follow the force of conceptualization, the attachment to the view of the aggregates, and the afflictions that possess various forms of the sixty-two views, Bodhisattvas generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. For example, in order to completely purify all obscured afflictions and completely obscured afflictions through knowledge, and in order to be protected by great compassion, Bodhisattvas generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect and complete
