He abandoned the clothes with nine faults. That is, he clearly saw the nine faults: For ascetic renunciates, clothes have nine faults, namely the fault of being difficult to obtain; the fault of arousing others' desires; the fault of quickly becoming dirty when used; the fault of needing to be washed and dyed when dirty; the fault of tearing easily when used; the fault of needing to be sewn and patched when old, and being difficult to find again when searching; the fault of being unsuitable for ascetic renunciates; the fault of being robbed by enemies, etc.; in any case, clothes are not taken by enemies, etc., so they need to be hidden as such; the fault of becoming an ornament when worn; the fault of becoming a heavy burden on the body when carried. The so-called bark clothes, at that time, Shariputra, I saw these nine faults and abandoned the clothes. Cutting the bark and munja grass into small pieces, and then connecting and binding them, is for the purpose of making lower and upper garments from bark. The so-called having twelve virtues refers to the benefits of bark clothes with twelve benefits, having twelve benefits, namely being inexpensive, beautiful in appearance, suitable, etc., these are one benefit; being able to make it with one's own hands is the second benefit; being able to quickly wash it even when it becomes dirty when used is the third benefit; being able to sew it even when it becomes old when used is the fourth benefit; being able to easily obtain it when searching again is the fifth benefit; being suitable for ascetic renunciates is the sixth benefit; being unnecessary for thieves is the seventh benefit; becoming an ornament for asceticism when worn is the eighth benefit; becoming light when worn is the ninth benefit; having little desire for each Dharma garment is the tenth benefit; when begging, there is no fault for practitioners, this is the eleventh benefit; even if the bark clothes are lost, there is no attachment, this is the twelfth benefit. The so-called abandoning the leaf house with eight faults, how was it abandoned? He took the red clothes similar to the two kinds of excellent clothes, like a garland of Ana Oza flowers, and wore them on the lower body, and then wore another yellow bark cloth on top. Punna

With feet like a peacock flower seat, Wearing a leopard skin cloak with feet, tying tangled hair around the head, and inserting a hard hairpin to secure the topknot. Like a pearl net, putting a coral-colored rope into a bottle, picking up the crooked wooden staff in three places, with the bottle on one side of the yoke and iron hooks, a pen holder, and a cane on the other, holding and carrying them on the shoulder, holding a cane in the right hand, coming out of the leaf house, and walking back and forth on the sixty-cubit-long avenue, looking at one's own attire. I have completely obtained my wish. I have beautifully renounced the world and am praised and extolled by heroes such as Buddhas and Pratyekabuddhas. Renunciation means abandoning the bonds of home, and I am convinced of this. Having heard of the supreme renunciation, I have practiced the Dharma of a Shramana. Having obtained the fruit of happiness, I am delighted. Gently placing the burden on the ground, in the middle of the walkway, sitting like a golden statue on a yellow stone, after the day has passed, in the evening returning to the leaf house. Sleeping on a fine wooden bed. Covering the body with yellow cloth, getting up in the latter part of the night, contemplating the meaning of my existence, seeing the faults of household life, abandoning the enjoyment of nectar and endless fame, dwelling in solitude, and renouncing the world in order to seek liberation. From then on, abandoning the realization of reckless behavior and extreme seclusion, being eaten by inverted bees, now I should abandon extreme seclusion. I also saw the hustle and bustle of household life, so I went, and this delightful leaf house, with the ground well smeared with yellow. The walls are as white as silver, and the roof is covered with leaves as red as pigeon's feet. Lying or sitting on a wooden mattress of various colors, the pleasant sights seen are exceedingly superior.
