Those supreme Dharmas spoken by the Thus Come One are spoken by countless Buddhas, World Honored Ones. Therefore, they are called supreme perfections. Furthermore, Subhuti, the perfection of patience of the Thus Come One is not a perfection. Why is that? Subhuti, when the Kalinga king was cutting off my limbs, did I have a thought of self at that time? Did I have a thought of sentient being? Did I have a thought of life? Did I have a thought of person? I did not have any thought, nor was I without thought. Why is that? Subhuti, if I had a thought of self at that time, then I would have had a thought of anger. If I had a thought of sentient being, a thought of life, or a thought of person, then I would have had a thought of anger. Subhuti, I know through clairvoyance that in the past I was a Rishi named "Speaker of Patience" for five hundred lifetimes, and even then I did not have a thought of self, a thought of sentient being, a thought of life, or a thought of person. Therefore, Subhuti, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should abandon all thoughts and generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. One should generate the mind without dwelling in form. One should generate the mind without dwelling in sound, smell, taste, touch, or dharma. One should also generate the mind without dwelling in non-dharma. One should generate the mind without dwelling in anything. Why is that? Because whatever is dwelling is non-dwelling. Therefore, the Thus Come One said: A Bodhisattva should give alms without dwelling. Furthermore, Subhuti, a Bodhisattva should give alms entirely for the benefit of all sentient beings. Whatever is the thought of sentient being is also without thought. Whatever the Thus Come One said as "all sentient beings" is also non-existent. Why is that? Subhuti, the Thus Come One is a speaker of truth, a speaker of reality, a speaker of thusness.

Because the Tathagata speaks of the undeceiving suchness. Furthermore, Subhuti, the Dharma that the Tathagata has fully awakened to, or the Dharma that is relied upon, has neither truth nor falsehood. Subhuti, just as a person with eyes enters the darkness and sees nothing, so should one regard the Bodhisattva who gives alms while clinging to things. Subhuti, just as when dawn breaks and the sun rises, a person with eyes can see various forms, so should one regard the Bodhisattva who gives alms without clinging to things. Furthermore, Subhuti, any son or daughter of good family who takes up, upholds, recites, comprehends, and extensively and correctly teaches this Dharma discourse to others, are known by the Tathagata. They are seen by the Tathagata, and all those beings will generate an immeasurable accumulation of merit. Furthermore, Subhuti, if a man or woman gives away as many bodies as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River in the morning, and also gives away as many bodies as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River at noon and in the afternoon, and does so for hundreds of thousands of myriads of kotis of kalpas, it is far better that someone who hears this Dharma discourse and does not abandon it will generate an immeasurably greater accumulation of merit than that. What need is there to mention someone who writes it down, takes it up, upholds it, recites it, comprehends it, and extensively and correctly teaches it to others? Furthermore, Subhuti, this Dharma discourse is inconceivable and incomparable, and this Dharma discourse is spoken by the Tathagata for the sake of beings who have faith in the Supreme Vehicle, and for the sake of beings who have faith in the Most Excellent Vehicle. Those who take up, recite, comprehend, and extensively and correctly teach this Dharma discourse to others are known by the Tathagata, and they are seen by the Tathagata, and all those beings will be merit.
