O Earth! One who completely subdues with excellent power, one who thus comprehends the Dharma, is called a Bodhisattva. The so-called Bodhisattva is one who comprehends and knows all Dharmas, and whose words awaken sentient beings. How does one know? It is not real, not unborn, and not inverted. Those things that are conceived by childish ordinary people are not like that. Those things that are attained by childish ordinary people are not like that. Therefore, it is called Bodhisattva. Why is that? Bodhi is not conceived, it is non-conceptual, and Bodhi is not accomplished, because it is unattainable. One who completely subdues with excellent power, the Tathagata has not attained Bodhi. All Dharmas are unattainable, and because all Dharmas are imperceptible, it is called Bodhi. Such is called the Bodhi of the Buddha, but it is not as it is said. One who completely subdues with excellent power, those who generate this mind for the sake of Bodhi, that is, generate the mind for Bodhi, and those who conceive of Bodhi with arrogance, thinking, "Where does the Bodhi exist in which I should generate the mind?" those should not be called Bodhisattvas, they should be called sentient beings. Why is that? Because they are manifestly attached to birth, and manifestly attached to mind, therefore they are manifestly attached to Bodhi. Those who generate the mind for the sake of Bodhi are said to be manifestly attached to the mind of Bodhi. Because of what is manifest action, therefore the mind is generated for Bodhi, therefore manifest action is called a sentient being, not a Bodhisattva. Why is that? Because they are called sentient beings. One who completely subdues with excellent power, Bodhi is unborn, and Bodhi is inconceivable, therefore one cannot generate the mind for the sake of Bodhi. One who completely subdues with excellent power, although they are manifestly attached to birth, they do not know birth well. One who completely subdues with excellent power, whatever is the equality of birth,

That is Suchness. What is the equality of mind, what is Suchness, what is equality, that Suchness is enlightenment. Where there is Suchness as it is, there is no conceptualization whatsoever. Those who conceptualize mind and enlightenment, clinging to duality, generate the mind for enlightenment. Subduing with great effort, the mind is not other, enlightenment is not other. There is no enlightenment on the mind, and no mind on enlightenment. What is enlightenment, and what is mind, is Suchness as it is, just like reality. In that, there is neither enlightenment nor mind. Whoever does not fixate on mind itself, enlightenment, birth, and non-birth, is called a Bodhisattva. Called a Suchness-as-it-is Sattva. Called a Mahasattva. Why is that? Because he knows what is not true in whatever. What is not true? All the world is not true, belonging to what is not true. Alas! This world abiding is not true, not arisen. Why is that? What is called untrue, unarisen? In what is not true, there is no arising, so what is not true is unarisen. Therefore, all dharmas are without essence, called untrue. Whoever knows it that way is called a being of Suchness as it is. Because one does not cling to the appearance of truth in truth, therefore it is called a being of Suchness as it is, but it is not as it is said. Why is that? Because in what is not Suchness as it is, there is no being or great being to be named. Whoever understands the Great Vehicle is called a Great Being. What is the Great Vehicle? Omniscient wisdom is the Great Vehicle. What is omniscient wisdom? Whatever it may be, knowing the conditioned and knowing the unconditioned, knowing the world and knowing what transcends the world, that is called a Great Being. Why is that? That is a great perception of beings

There is no (great) aggregate, therefore it is called a great sentient being. There is no great aggregate of ignorance, therefore it is called a great sentient being. There is no great aggregate of formations, therefore it is called a great sentient being. There is no great aggregate of unknowing, therefore it is called a great sentient being. There is no great aggregate of suffering, therefore it is called a great sentient being. Those who subdue with the power of wisdom also reproach the perception of a great bodhisattva, and do not focus on the mind. They do not understand the phenomena arising from the mind and the nature of the mind. They do not focus on enlightenment, nor do they understand the dharmas of the path to enlightenment and the nature of enlightenment. With a mind that does not understand these, they do not see enlightenment, nor do they see the mind apart from enlightenment. They do not see the mind in enlightenment, nor do they see enlightenment in the mind. Whoever destroys in this way has no practice, nor is there a destroyer. The destroyer is not focused on, nor does he have pride. Without attachment, they generate the mind of enlightenment. Those who subdue with the power of wisdom, who generate the mind of enlightenment in this way, are called true bodhisattvas, and they do not turn back from enlightenment. Why is that? Because those who do not truly see that enlightenment, mind, birth, and cessation are different in this way abide in enlightenment itself. This is because they do not truly see anything, they are not attached to anything, and they do not discriminate anything. Those who subdue with the power of wisdom, who do not generate the mind of liberation and liberation in this way, are called true bodhisattvas. Those who subdue with the power of wisdom, who perceive sentient beings as sentient beings, perceive enlightenment as enlightenment, and generate the mind for enlightenment, are far from enlightenment, and they are not close to enlightenment. Those who subdue with the power of wisdom, who do not truly see far from or near to enlightenment, are close to enlightenment, and that is generating the mind for enlightenment.
