Although there are immeasurable and countless sentient beings who have greatly expanded their minds and practice the path to Bodhi, Kauśika, among those immeasurable and countless sentient beings who practice for Bodhi, if one or two were to abide in the ground of non-returning Bodhisattvas, why is that? Kauśika, unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment is difficult to achieve by those who are weak in diligence, lazy, have small minds, low intelligence, insufficient understanding, lack of faith, and lack of wisdom. Kauśika, therefore, any son or daughter of good family who wishes to quickly and easily realize unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment should continuously listen to, grasp, hold, read, fully understand, thoroughly recite, teach, closely teach, memorize, chant, and fully inquire about this Perfection of Wisdom. Why is that? Kauśika, because these sons or daughters of good family will think, 'When the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, practiced the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past, he learned in this way from this Perfection of Wisdom. We should also learn from this, because this Perfection of Wisdom is our teacher.' Kauśika, whether the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, remains or has passed into complete Nirvana, Bodhisattvas, great beings, should rely on this Perfection of Wisdom. With divine banners and divine bells and divine flags, and with rows of divine lamps all around, and with many kinds of divine offerings, they make offerings, respect, honor, revere, worship, depict, and attend. Kauśika, what do you think? Does that son or daughter of good family generate more merit from that basis? Śatakoti replied: Blessed One, much, Sugata, much! The Blessed One said: Kauśika, even more than that, this son or daughter of good family generates much more merit. Whoever has faith in this Perfection of Wisdom, thinks about it, rejoices in it, and with a mind of faith generates the thought of enlightenment, and with a special intention listens to it, grasps it, holds it, reads it, fully understands it, recites it, teaches it, closely teaches it, transmits it, recites it, and also widely and correctly teaches it to others, and explains its meaning, and mentally reflects on it, and fully examines it here with the wisdom of how it is established, and so that the lineage of the Buddhas may not be cut off, and so that the sacred Dharma may not disappear, and to make the sacred Dharma abide for a long time, and without deviating from the proper way, to accomplish the benefit of Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, even if they put it in a book and hold or place that Perfection of Wisdom, and make offerings to it with flowers, incense, perfume, garlands, unguents, powders, clothing, umbrellas, banners, bells, flags, and rows of lamps all around, and with many kinds of offerings, and respect, honor, revere, worship, depict, and attend to it, then, Kauśika, this son or daughter of good family will generate even more heaps of merit than that. Kauśika, let alone hundreds of thousands of stupas made of the seven precious substances, with the essence of the relics of the Tathagata. Let it be filled with essence. Having done so, until they live, with heavenly flowers, heavenly incense, heavenly scents, heavenly garlands, heavenly unguents, heavenly powders, heavenly garments, heavenly umbrellas, heavenly banners, heavenly bells, heavenly streamers, and around them, heavenly garlands of lamps and various heavenly offerings, they make offerings, that is, they respect, honor, regard as a teacher, remember, offer, paint, and attend to. Kaushika, what do you think, Does that son or daughter of good family generate more merit from that basis? Indra replied: Blessed One, much, Sugata, much. The Blessed One said: Kaushika, even more than that, this son or daughter of good family generates much more merit. Whoever, with manifest joy in this Perfection of Wisdom, and thinking about it, believing in it, with a joyful mind generates the mind of enlightenment, and with superior intention, listens, holds, recites, reads, comprehends, thoroughly recites, tells, and explains in detail. Transmits, chants, and also extensively and truthfully tells it to other beings, and explains the meaning of this, recollects with the mind, and with the wisdom of what has been truly accomplished, fully examines this, and in order that the lineage of the Buddha may not be interrupted, in order that the sacred Dharma may not be obscured, in order that the sacred Dharma may abide for a long time, and without deviating from the proper path, accomplishes the benefit of the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, even if it is placed in a book, held, guarded, or for this Perfection of Wisdom, with flowers, incense, scents, garlands, unguents, powders, garments, umbrellas, banners, bells, streamers, and around them, garlands of lamps and various offerings, they make offerings, that is, they respect, honor, regard as a teacher, remember, offer, paint, and attend to, then Kaushika, this son or daughter of good family, more than that, generates much more merit. Kaushika, this Jambudvipa is a stupa of the nature of seven jewels.
