Those wandering non-Buddhists came to where the Blessed One was, with the intention of finding fault, thinking: "By all means, I must prevent those other wandering non-Buddhists from approaching the Blessed One. For this purpose, I will remember, contemplate, recite, and thoroughly recite as much of this Perfection of Wisdom as I have heard from the Blessed One. By doing so, it will not become an obstacle to the teaching of this Perfection of Wisdom." They thought in this way. Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, remembered, contemplated, recited, and thoroughly recited as much of this Perfection of Wisdom as he had heard from the Blessed One. Then, those other wandering non-Buddhists circumambulated the Blessed One from a very great distance, and then returned and left by the same door and path. Then, the venerable Shariputra thought: "Why are these other wandering non-Buddhists circumambulating the Blessed One from a very great distance, and then returning and leaving by the same door and path?" Then, the Blessed One, knowing the thought of the venerable Shariputra's mind, said to the venerable Shariputra: "Shariputra, the lord of the gods, Indra, saw the minds of those other wandering non-Buddhists who had the intention of finding fault, and thinking that it would be bad if it became an obstacle to the teaching of this Perfection of Wisdom, and so that those other wandering non-Buddhists would not come to hear the Perfection of Wisdom, in order to dispel those other wandering non-Buddhists who wanted to argue, debate, and oppose, he remembered, contemplated, recited, and thoroughly recited this Perfection of Wisdom. Just as the lord of the gods, Indra, did, so do I. Why is that? Shariputra, I have not seen any of those other wandering non-Buddhists who have any white dharma, Shariputra!"

All of them wanted to come with the intention of finding fault and with a jealous mind. Then the evil Mara thought: 'These four assemblies of the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, are gathered and abiding, and the Tathagata is manifest, and these sons of gods in the desire realm and the form realm are also manifest, then here it will surely be predicted to the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, in order not to let the eyes see, I should go near.' Then the evil Mara manifested a host of four-membered armies and came near to where the Blessed One was. Then the lord of the gods, Indra, thought: 'Alas! These are the evil Mara, who has manifested a host of four-membered armies and has come to where the Blessed One is, this arrangement of the four-membered armies is not the arrangement of the four-membered armies of King Image Heart, nor is it the arrangement of the four-membered armies of King Brightness, nor is it the arrangement of the four-membered armies of the Shakyas, nor is it the arrangement of the four-membered armies of the Licchavis, this is manifested by the evil Mara, the evil Mara has long been observing the faults of the Blessed One, seeking faults, and is associated with the intention of harming sentient beings. Now I should remember, think, recite, and read this Prajnaparamita.' Then the lord of the gods, Indra, remembered, thought, recited, and read this Prajnaparamita. As the lord of the gods, Indra, remembered, thought, recited, and read the Prajnaparamita, the evil Mara returned and went away from that very door and that very path. Then the sons of the gods of the Thirty-Three Realm offered the heavenly flower Mandarava.

Those manifestations appeared and remained in the sky, scattering celestial Mandarava flowers upon the Blessed One Gala. They specifically proclaimed, 'How wondrous! This Prajñāpāramitā has appeared among the people of Jambudvipa after a long time.' After such specific praise, they again held the celestial flowers and scattered them upon the Blessed One Gala, utterly scattering them, and supplicated thus: 'Blessed One, those beings who expound, meditate on, and practice the Prajñāpāramitā will not be able to be exploited by demons or gods of the demonic hosts. Blessed One, those beings who listen to, hear and then grasp, hold, read, master, thoroughly recite, explain, elaborately explain, transmit, and recite this Prajñāpāramitā are not without roots of virtue, even with ill intent. Blessed One, even those beings into whose ears this Prajñāpāramitā has entered have made offerings to the victorious ones of the past. What need is there to mention those who grasp, hold, read, master, thoroughly recite, explain, transmit, and recite, and who likewise learn, likewise practice, and likewise engage in yoga? Blessed One, those beings have served the Tathāgata.' Why is that? Because all-knowingness is fully revealed from this Prajñāpāramitā, and all-knowingness is sought from this. Blessed One, just as any jewel or great jewel is revealed by the great ocean, and all those are to be sought from the great ocean, so too, Blessed One, the great jewel of all-knowingness, the Tathāgatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Buddhas, are sought from the great ocean of Prajñāpāramitā.' After they supplicated thus, the Blessed One

Then, the Blessed One spoke to Śakra, the lord of the gods, saying: Kauśika, it is so, it is so. The great jewel of the omniscient wisdom of the Tathāgatas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas, is born from this great ocean of the Perfection of Wisdom. Then, the venerable Ānanda said to the Blessed One: The Blessed One does not speak of the praise of the Perfection of Giving, nor does he widely proclaim its name; he does not speak of the Perfection of Ethics, he does not speak of the Perfection of Patience, he does not speak of the Perfection of Diligence; the Blessed One does not speak of the praise of the Perfection of Meditation, nor does he widely proclaim its name. However, the Blessed One only speaks of the praise of the Perfection of Wisdom and widely proclaims its name. The Blessed One said: It is so, Ānanda, it is so. Ānanda, now only the praise of the Perfection of Wisdom is spoken and its name is widely proclaimed, and not of other perfections. Why is that? Ānanda, the Perfection of Wisdom precedes the five perfections, therefore it obtains the name of Perfection. Ānanda, what do you think? Can giving that is not completely dedicated to omniscience obtain the name of the Perfection of Giving? Ānanda replied: Blessed One, it cannot. The Blessed One said: Ānanda, what do you think? Similarly, ethics that is not completely dedicated, patience that is not completely dedicated, diligence that is not completely dedicated, meditation that is not completely dedicated, and Ānanda, what do you think? Can wisdom that is not completely dedicated to omniscience obtain the name of the Perfection of Wisdom? Ānanda replied: Blessed One, it cannot. The Blessed One said: Ānanda, what do you think? All roots of virtue are dedicated to omniscience
