Through pure, transcendent conduct, one sees beings passing away and being reborn, going from birth to good destinies, to bad destinies, and proceeding according to their karma. One fully understands this as it truly is. Furthermore, the Thus-Gone One remembers many kinds of former existences. For example, one remembers one lifetime, up to many kinds of former existences, complete with their aspects and locations. Furthermore, the Thus-Gone One, through the exhaustion of all defilements, attains freedom from defilements, liberation of mind, and liberation of wisdom, realizing it directly in this very life through one's own realization and abiding in it. 'My birth is exhausted, the holy life has been lived, what had to be done has been done, there will be no further existence.' These are the ten powers of the Thus-Gone One. What are the four fearlessnesses? For example, if I make the vow, 'I am a fully awakened Buddha,' then in this world of beings, including gods, demons, Brahma, and ascetics and Brahmins, no one can rightfully oppose me by saying that I have not fully awakened to these dharmas. Because I do not see any reason for opposition, I attain happiness and fearlessness, attain fearlessness, and make the vow to be in the most excellent position. Within the assembly, I truly roar the lion's roar. I say that I will turn the wheel of Brahma, which cannot be turned rightfully in the world by any ascetic, Brahmin, god, demon, Brahma, or anyone else. If I make the vow, 'I have exhausted all defilements,' then no ascetic or Brahmin can rightfully find a reason to oppose me by saying that I have not exhausted these defilements. This statement should be applied extensively. If I say that I have proclaimed any obstructing dharmas to my hearers, and even if they follow these teachings, it will not become an obstruction, then no ascetic, Brahmin, god, or demon can rightfully find a reason to oppose me. This statement should be applied extensively. I say that for those hearers, the definitive emergence, the definitive liberation, is the practice of

If there is a path said to lead to the complete cessation of suffering, then this path is not necessarily liberating, not necessarily enlightening, nor does it necessarily lead to the complete cessation of the suffering of the maker. Whether it be a renunciate, a Brahmin, a god, a demon, or anyone else, I cannot find any reason for them to refute me. These should be widely proclaimed. These are called the four fearlessnesses of the Thus-Gone One. What are the four kinds of separate perfect knowledge? Namely: separate perfect knowledge of meaning, separate perfect knowledge of dharma, separate perfect knowledge of definitive words, and separate perfect knowledge of eloquence. These are called the four kinds of separate perfect knowledge. What is great love? That the Thus-Gone One treats all sentient beings, whether enemies or friends, equally, is called great love. What is great compassion? Not abandoning love for those who are not sentient beings is called great compassion. What are the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha? Namely: the Thus-Gone One has no errors, no clamor, no forgetfulness, no unequal mind, no diverse perceptions, no unexamined abandonment, no diminished desire, no diminished diligence, no diminished mindfulness, no diminished samadhi, no diminished wisdom, no diminished liberation, no diminished knowledge and vision of liberation, the arising of unobstructed knowledge and vision regarding the past, the arising of unobstructed knowledge and vision regarding the future, the arising of unobstructed knowledge and vision regarding the present, all bodily actions are preceded by and follow wisdom, all verbal actions are preceded by and follow wisdom, and all mental actions are preceded by and follow wisdom. These are called the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha. What are the thirty-two major marks of a great being of the Thus-Gone One? Namely:

That is, the Bhagavan (Sanskrit, भगवत्, bhagavat, possessor of bhaga, meaning fortune and worth) has feet that are very well-placed. What is meant by feet that are very well-placed is that both soles of the feet completely touch the ground.
