Loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, from the sphere of infinite space to the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, are cultivated and dwelt in. Emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness are the samadhis meditated upon. Except for the Tathagata's samadhi, the lightning-like samadhi, the true samadhi, and the diamond-like samadhi, any samadhi, whether it be the samadhi of a Shravaka, or the samadhi of a Pratyekabuddha, or any other collection of samadhis, all of those are cultivated and dwelt in by pervading the body, but neither those samadhis nor the fruits of those samadhis are experienced. Why is that? Because the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva thus knows the characteristic of samadhi to be the very nature of non-entity. Just as a signless dharma does not experience the taste of a signless dharma, and a non-entity does not experience the taste of a non-entity. Because the taste is not experienced, therefore, by the power of any samadhi, one will not be reborn in the desire realm, or the form realm, or the formless realm. Why is that? Because, in this way, he does not fixate on the realms, therefore, whoever enters into samadhi, and by whatever means one enters into samadhi, all of that is also not fixated upon. Because all dharmas are not fixated upon, the perfection of meditation, which is signless, is completely fulfilled, and by that perfection of samadhi, one transcends the ground of the Shravakas and the ground of the Pratyekabuddhas. Question: Venerable Bhagavan, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, through the perfection of samadhi, transcend the ground of the Shravakas and the ground of the Pratyekabuddhas? The Bhagavan replied: Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva is well-trained in inner emptiness, and well-trained up to the emptiness of self-nature, and does not fixate on any dharma from those emptinesses, and by dwelling in those, wherever one dwells, one will attain the fruit of stream-enterer, or once-returner.

the fruit of an Arhat, or the fruit of a Non-Returner, or an Arhat himself? And no dharma whatsoever that would lead to the attainment of perfect enlightenment is perceived, and all-knowledge itself is also regarded as emptiness. Because he possesses these emptinesses, he transcends the level of a Hearer and the level of a Solitary Buddha, and enters the faultless state of a Bodhisattva. The question: Venerable Lord, what are the faults of a Bodhisattva? What is faultless? The Lord replied: Subhuti, all objects of focus are the faults of a Bodhisattva. All that is without an object of focus is the faultlessness of a Bodhisattva. The question: Venerable Lord, what is an object of focus? What is without an object of focus? The Lord replied: Subhuti, form is the object of focus of a Bodhisattva, a great being. Subhuti, likewise, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are the object of focus of a Bodhisattva, a great being. Likewise, the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind are the object of focus of a Bodhisattva. Likewise, forms, sounds, smells, tastes, tactile objects, and dharmas are the object of focus of a Bodhisattva. Likewise, applying this, even up to all-knowledge is the object of focus of a Bodhisattva. That which is without an object of focus is that in which those dharmas have no range, that is to say, that in which form, feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, and likewise the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind, and likewise forms, sounds, smells, tastes, tactile objects, and dharmas, and likewise the eye element, the form element, and the eye consciousness element, and likewise the ear element, the sound element, and the ear consciousness element, and the nose element, the smell element, and the nose consciousness element, and the tongue element, the taste element, and the tongue consciousness element, and the body element, the tactile object element, and the body consciousness element, and the mind element, the dharma element, and the mind consciousness element, and likewise mindfulness

The four intervals, and similarly connecting, up to the eight branches of the noble path, similarly from the ten powers of the Tathagata, similarly connecting, up to the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, similarly up to the dharmas between all-knowingness, those are without object. Why is that? Subhuti, for example, whatever is the essence of form, that is unspeakable, similarly whatever is of feeling, whatever is of perception, whatever is of formations, whatever is the essence of consciousness, that is unspeakable. Similarly connecting, whatever is the essence between all-knowingness, that is because it is unspeakable. All the dhyanas and samapattis are also perfected, and even if they are not born from their power, what need is there to say that they are born from the power of desire, hatred, and ignorance? That is without a place to dwell. Abiding in what birth, having manifestly performed what actions, manifestly performing the actions of falling into the cycle of the five destinies, that is without a place to dwell. Otherwise, like the formations of illusion, also abiding as it is in reality, constantly doing the benefit of sentient beings, yet not perceiving the essence of sentient beings, nor perceiving illusion. Because not perceiving sentient beings and illusion, therefore also causing sentient beings to mature, also causing the Buddha-field to be purified. Subhuti, in that way, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva practicing the Prajnaparamita, perfects the Dhyana Paramita, just like this, turning the wheel of dharma without object. Subhuti, furthermore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva practicing the Prajnaparamita, from the five aggregates of grasping like a dream, abiding in the five aggregates of grasping like an illusion, truly knowing all dharmas as a dream, up to all dharmas as an illusion. Then, the venerable Subhuti said this to the Bhagavan: Venerable Bhagavan
