This is because they have not diligently practiced according to what is taught in the profound Perfection of Wisdom. Subhuti, for example, if a ship on the ocean, a large ship, is broken and damaged, then those who wish to live, if they do not grasp planks of wood, or wood, or swimming aids, or corpses, and do not hold onto them, then those people will only meet their death without reaching the shore of the ocean. Subhuti, for example, if a ship on the ocean, a large ship, is broken and damaged, then those who wish to live, if they grasp planks of wood, or wood, or swimming aids, or corpses, and hold onto them, then know that those people will reach the shore of the ocean in peace and well-being, without being harmed or diminished. Subhuti, similarly, if any individuals of the Bodhisattva Vehicle only have faith and joy in this profound Perfection of Wisdom, but do not write down this profound Perfection of Wisdom, do not engage in it in writing, do not grasp it, do not carry it, do not understand it, do not read it, do not recite it, do not receive it, do not properly attend to it, and do not diligently practice according to what is taught in this profound Perfection of Wisdom, then those Bodhisattvas, without reaching the faultless shore, will realize the Hearer's Ground or the Solitary Buddha's Ground. Subhuti, if any individuals of the Bodhisattva Vehicle have faith, patience, joy, purity, superior intention, desire, conviction, generosity, and do not abandon their effort towards unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment, and also write down this profound Perfection of Wisdom, and similarly grasp it, carry it, understand it, read it, recite it, receive it, properly attend to it, and diligently practice according to what is taught in this profound Perfection of Wisdom, then the faith of those Bodhisattva Vehicle practitioners, and their patience, and their purity, and their superior intention, and their desire, and their conviction, and their generosity, and their unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment

Those who do not abandon striving for enlightenment on the ground, and who are fully grasped by the Perfection of Wisdom, will increase and become extremely vast. They will not degenerate from the Perfection of Wisdom and the Omniscient One. They will fully ripen sentient beings, and also purify the Buddhafields, and quickly awaken to unsurpassed and perfectly complete enlightenment. Furthermore, Subhuti, for example, if a man or woman thinks of holding water in an unbaked pot, that man or woman should be recognized as being of an unskilled nature. That unbaked pot will not last long, and will quickly turn into ordinary earth. Why is that? It is because the pot is unbaked and soft. Subhuti, similarly, even if other individuals of the Bodhisattva Vehicle have faith, tolerance, joy, higher intention, desire, devotion, generosity, and do not abandon striving for unsurpassed and perfectly complete enlightenment, nevertheless, if they are separated from the Perfection of Wisdom and lack skillful means, then they are likewise separated from the Perfection of Meditation, likewise from the Perfection of Diligence, from the Perfection of Patience, from the Perfection of Morality, from the Perfection of Giving, and lack skillful means. Likewise, they are also separated from inner emptiness up to the emptiness of the nature of non-things, and lack skillful means. Likewise, they are also separated from the mindfulness, the correct abandonment, the miraculous feet, the faculties, the powers, the limbs of enlightenment, and the eight limbs of the noble path, and lack skillful means. Thus, combining them, they are also separated from the cultivation of the eighteen unmixed Buddha-dharmas, and lack skillful means. Thus, they are separated from the cultivation of the Omniscient One, and lack skillful means, and they are only in the intermediate state, with an unreasonable dharma.

They will decline from those. Subhuti, what is it that those beings of the Bodhisattva Vehicle, being unreasonable only in the intermediate state, will decline from those dharmas? This is like the Hearer or the Solitary Buddha's ground. Subhuti, for example, a man or woman who has abandoned a clay pot, like this, drawing water from a river, or stream, or lake, or pond, or puddle, or well, that man or woman drawing water should be known as having the nature of wisdom, that clay pot, even if immersed in water, will not be destroyed, that man or woman can use that clay pot to draw water as they please. Subhuti, likewise, those beings of the Bodhisattva Vehicle who have faith, patience, joy, superior intention, desire, love, generosity, and do not abandon diligence in unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, they also do not separate from the Perfection of Wisdom, and also do not separate from skillful means when practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva, Subhuti, those other Bodhisattvas should know that those sons or daughters of good family are completely seized by the Perfection of Concentration. Likewise, those sons or daughters of good family are completely seized by the Perfection of Diligence, the Perfection of Patience, the Perfection of Morality, the Perfection of Generosity, and so on, and should be known as being completely seized by all-knowingness. Those Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, like this, being unreasonable only in the intermediate state, will not decline from those dharmas from the Hearer's ground or the Solitary Buddha's ground, without speaking, without declining, they will manifest unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment and become Buddhas. Subhuti, for example, if a ship on the ocean is not well repaired, and is filled with goods, and one wants to cross the ocean, Subhuti, therefore, those other merchants of the ocean who have the nature of wisdom, this ship will not be able to reach the other shore of the ocean peacefully and smoothly, this ship will be destroyed in the ocean in the intermediate state, and the ship will also
