and not sleeping, speaking and not speaking, one also acts with full awareness. When entering and rising, one also acts with full awareness. Sharadvatiputra, in this way, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he dwells contemplating the body within the body, and he dwells in a non-objective manner. Sharadvatiputra, furthermore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva breathes in mindfully and breathes out mindfully. If he breathes in long, he fully knows that he breathes in long, and if he breathes out long, he fully knows that he breathes out long. If he breathes in short, he fully knows that he breathes in short, and if he breathes out short, he fully knows that he breathes out short. Sharadvatiputra, for example, when a potter or a skilled student of a potter turns a wheel, if he turns it long, he fully knows that he turns it long, and if he turns it short, he fully knows that he turns it short. Sharadvatiputra, similarly, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva also breathes in mindfully and breathes out mindfully. If he breathes in long, he fully knows that he breathes in long, and if he breathes out long, he fully knows that he breathes out long. If he breathes in short, he fully knows that he breathes in short, and if he breathes out short, he fully knows that he breathes out short. Sharadvatiputra, in this way, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, being diligent, fully aware, and endowed with mindfulness, eliminates covetousness and displeasure towards the world in a non-objective manner, and dwells contemplating the body within the body. Sharadvatiputra, furthermore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva discerns this very body by its elements, and he thinks, "This body has the earth element, the water element, the fire element, and the wind element." Sharadvatiputra, for example, just as a skilled butcher or a skilled student of a butcher slaughters a cow with a sharp knife, cuts it into four pieces, and then stands or sits, individually identifying them, similarly, Sharadvatiputra,

When a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he also individually contemplates this body by its elements. He contemplates that this body has the earth element, the water element, the fire element, and the wind element. Sharadvatiputra, thus, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he dwells contemplating the body in the inner body, and he dwells in a non-objective manner. Sharadvatiputra, moreover, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva contemplates this body, from the soles of the feet upwards to the hairline downwards, filled with various impure things. This body has hair, body hair, nails, skin, epidermis, flesh, sinews, bones, marrow, kidneys, heart, spleen, lungs, liver, diaphragm, intestines, hemorrhoids, anus, bladder, feces, tears, sweat, fat, phlegm, snot, pus, blood, bile, phlegm, oil, lymph, dirt, urine, brain, and brain marrow. Sharadvatiputra, for example, a farmer or householder fills a container with various grains such as sesame, rice, mung beans, cowpeas, barley, wheat, lentils, rice, millet, mustard seeds, etc., and places it between two doors. A person with eyes sees it and knows, 'This is sesame, this is rice, this is mung beans, this is cowpeas, this is barley, this is wheat, this is lentils, this is rice, this is millet, this is mustard seeds.' Sharadvatiputra, likewise, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva also contemplates this body, from the soles of the feet upwards to the hairline downwards, filled with various impure things. This body has hair, body hair, and so on, connecting to the brain and brain marrow. Sharadvatiputra, thus, a Bodhi-

The Bodhisattva Mahasattva, with steadfast wisdom and mindfulness, thus abandons covetousness and displeasure towards the world. He abides contemplating the body in the inner body, and in a non-objective manner. Sharadvatiputra, this is the faultlessness of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practicing the Perfection of Wisdom. Sharadvatiputra, another faultlessness of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practicing the Perfection of Wisdom is as follows: the four right abandonments. What are the four? Sharadvatiputra, here, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva generates desire and strives to prevent the arising of unarisen sinful and unwholesome dharmas, initiates diligence, holds the mind, and correctly abides; to abandon arisen sinful and unwholesome dharmas, he generates desire and strives, initiates diligence, holds the mind, and correctly abides; to generate unarisen wholesome dharmas, he generates desire and exerts effort, initiates diligence, holds the mind, and correctly abides; to maintain, not forget, increase, expand, and fully cultivate the arisen wholesome dharmas, he generates desire and exerts effort, initiates diligence, holds the mind, and correctly abides, and in a non-objective manner. Sharadvatiputra, this is the faultlessness of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Sharadvatiputra, another faultlessness of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is as follows: the four legs of miraculous power. What are the four? Sharadvatiputra, here, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva cultivates the leg of miraculous power endowed with the concentration of desire and the activity of abandonment, abiding in solitude, abiding in detachment, abiding in cessation, transforming completely through abandonment; similarly, he cultivates the leg of miraculous power endowed with the concentration of mind and the activity of abandonment; he cultivates the leg of miraculous power endowed with the concentration of diligence and the activity of abandonment; he cultivates the leg of
