Sarala, manifest the Hearer's Ground. If (someone) does not speak of, does not show, and does not truly understand such demonic deeds as saying, "What is the use to you of perfectly awakening to unsurpassed complete enlightenment?" then it should be known that he is an evil friend of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Sharadvatiputra, furthermore, the evil demon transforms into an invisible form and comes before the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, saying, "Good son, come here! For what purpose do you wander in samsara for immeasurable and countless kalpas, and experience countless sufferings such as severed hands, severed feet, and severed heads? What is the use to you of perfectly awakening to unsurpassed complete enlightenment? Strive for the fruit of stream-entry that can be realized! Strive for the fruit of Arhatship that can be realized!" If (someone) does not speak of, does not show, and does not truly understand such demonic deeds, then it should be known that he is an evil friend of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Sharadvatiputra, furthermore, the evil demon transforms into the form of a bhikshu and comes before the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, and teaches the Dharma to him by way of focusing on the eye as impermanent. Likewise, he teaches the Dharma by way of focusing on suffering, selflessness, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, peace, solitude, purity, unbornness, unceasingness, and thinglessness. Likewise, just as it is combined with the eye, it should also be widely combined with the mind. Likewise, he teaches the Dharma by way of focusing on the mindfulnesses as impermanent, and likewise, by way of suffering, selflessness, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, peace, solitude, and purity.

And teaching the Dharma by means of focusing on what is called emptiness (ྱང་, Sanskrit शून्य, śūnya, emptiness), what is called unborn, what is called unceasing, and what is called non-entity. Similarly, combining them, teaching the Dharma by means of focusing on the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha. Similarly, teaching the Dharma by means of focusing on the ten powers of the Thus-Gone One as impermanent. Similarly, teaching the Dharma by means of focusing on what is called suffering, what is called selflessness, what is called emptiness, what is called signlessness, what is called wishlessness, what is called peace, what is called solitude, what is called complete purification, what is called unborn, what is called unceasing, and what is called non-entity. Such actions of demons, not speaking of them, not showing them, and not truly realizing them, this should be recognized as the evil friend of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, and having recognized it, one should completely abandon it. After this was spoken, the venerable Sharadvatiputra said this to the Blessed One: Venerable Blessed One, with what skillful means does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva possess, so that he is completely taken by a virtuous friend and completely abandons evil friends? The Blessed One said: Sharadvatiputra, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva teaches the Dharma to sentient beings in order to abandon the view of self, and similarly in order to abandon the view of sentient beings, as well as the view of a being, the view of life, the view of nourishment, the view of a person, the view of power-born, the view of power-child, the view of the one who causes to act, the view of the actor, the view of the beggar, the view of the universal beggar, the view of the feeler, the view of the one who causes to feel, the view of the knower, the view of the seer, and similarly in order to abandon the view of annihilation and the view of permanence, he teaches the Dharma to sentient beings, and similarly in order to abandon the view of existence and the view of non-existence, the view of aggregates, the view of elements, the view of sources, the view of truth, and the view of dependent origination, he teaches the Dharma to sentient beings, this
