If even that sign is not apprehended, will the realm that cannot be expressed be realized in this way? Maitreya, in this way, the realm that cannot be expressed is not something other than the object of the sign of action. For example, the so-called form, the so-called feeling, the so-called perception, the so-called formations, the so-called consciousness, and even the so-called Buddha's dharmas, it should be understood that the realm that cannot be expressed is not other than that which is temporarily named. After the Blessed One spoke thus, the Bodhisattva Maitreya said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, if a Bodhisattva abides in the practice of wisdom related to the realm that cannot be expressed, for example, the so-called form, the so-called feeling, the so-called perception, the so-called formations, the so-called consciousness, and even the so-called Buddha's dharmas, if the object of the sign of action, which is temporarily named, is not apprehended, Blessed One, is it not apprehending existence, or is it not apprehending non-existence? After speaking thus, the Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Maitreya: Maitreya, there is no self-nature or existence in the object of the sign of action. Why is that? Maitreya, when you discriminate the object of the sign of action, will that object of the sign of action be grasped by discriminations? When you abide in the practice of wisdom related to the realm that cannot be expressed and do not discriminate, will it be grasped by non-discrimination? Blessed One, that is so. Maitreya, if that is so, for example, for the object of the sign of action, for the form, feeling, perception, formations, consciousness, and even the Buddha's dharmas, which are temporarily named in this way, is that merely discrimination? It is merely discrimination. Then, that non-discrimination

Abiding in the expanse, when one is free from all discriminations, for example, what exists in that which is suddenly named as form, as feeling, as perception, as formations, as consciousness, and even as the dharmas of the Buddhas? Whatever exists will become invisible. Thus it was said, and the Bodhisattva Maitreya said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, how many kinds of investigation of the distinctions of form should a Bodhisattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom, who has entered into being skilled in distinguishing dharmas, understand? And how many kinds of investigation of the distinctions of feeling, perception, formations, consciousness, and even the dharmas of the Buddhas, should one understand? Having thus spoken, the Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Maitreya: Maitreya, a Bodhisattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom, who has entered into being skilled in distinguishing dharmas, should understand that there are three kinds of investigation of the distinctions of form. And one should understand that there are three kinds of investigation of the distinctions of feeling, perception, formations, consciousness, and even the dharmas of the Buddhas, namely: This is form that is completely imputed. This is form that arises dependently. This is form of suchness. For example, this is feeling that is completely imputed. This is feeling that arises dependently. This is feeling of suchness. For example, this is perception that is completely imputed. This is perception that arises dependently. This is perception of suchness. For example, these are formations that are completely imputed. These are formations that arise dependently. These are formations of suchness. For example, this is consciousness that is completely imputed. This is consciousness that arises dependently. This is consciousness of suchness. For example, these are the dharmas of the Buddhas that are completely imputed. These are the dharmas of the Buddhas that arise dependently.

These are the dharmas. These are called the dharmas of the Buddha of Suchness. Having spoken thus, the Bodhisattva Maitreya addressed the Blessed One as follows: "Blessed One, what is the form that is completely imputed? What is the form that is other-dependent? What is the form of Suchness? Blessed One, what is the feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness that are completely imputed, and what are the dharmas of the Buddha that are completely imputed? What are the dharmas of the Buddha that are other-dependent? What are the dharmas of the Buddha of Suchness?" The Blessed One said: "Maitreya, whatever is the object of the characteristics of the formations, and based on the name, concept, designation, and terminology of what is called 'form,' completely imputing the nature of form, this is the form that is completely imputed. Maitreya, whatever is the object of the characteristics of the formations, and based on the name of what is called 'feeling,' the name of what is called 'perception,' the name of what is called 'formations,' the name of what is called 'consciousness,' and the name of what is called 'dharmas of the Buddha,' the concept, designation, and terminology, completely imputing the nature of feeling, perception, formations, consciousness, and the nature of the dharmas of the Buddha, this is the feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness that are completely imputed. These are all the dharmas of the Buddha that are completely imputed. Whatever is the object of the characteristics of the formations, merely abiding in the Suchness of other-dependence, and based on other-dependence, manifestly expressing, that is, to whatever is called 'this is form,' 'this is feeling,' 'this is perception,' 'this is formations,' 'this is consciousness,' and the name, concept, designation, and terminology of 'these are the dharmas of the Buddha,' this is the form that is other-dependent. This is the feeling that is other-dependent. This is the perception that is other-dependent. This is the formations that are other-dependent. This is the consciousness that is other-dependent.
