Whatever cannot be turned, I shall turn. Similarly, if I vow, saying: I have exhausted all defilements. Then, if someone righteously opposes me, saying: You have not exhausted these defilements. And, those dharmas that I have spoken of as causing obstructions, even if I practice them, they will not cause obstructions. And, those that I have spoken of as completely extinguishing suffering, as the path of definite liberation, even if I practice them, they will not completely extinguish suffering. In the world including gods, demons, Brahma, and ascetics and Brahmins, I do not see any reason to righteously oppose me. Because I do not see this reason, I have attained happiness, attained freedom from worry and fear, and vow to be in the most supreme position. In the assembly, I truly roar the lion's roar. Whatever wheel of Brahma that ascetics, Brahmins, gods, demons, Brahma, or anyone cannot righteously turn in the world, I shall turn. These are called the four fearlessnesses. Subhuti, what are the four kinds of individual perfect knowledge of the Tathagata? They are individual perfect knowledge of meaning, individual perfect knowledge of dharma, individual perfect knowledge of terms, and individual perfect knowledge of eloquence. What are those? They are focusing on meaning, focusing on dharma, focusing on terms, and focusing on eloquence. Subhuti, what are the three unguardings of the Tathagata? The Tathagata's bodily conduct is completely pure, the Tathagata does not have any bodily conduct that is not completely pure, therefore the Tathagata does not have the thought of hiding anything, that it does not matter if others do not know. This is the first unguardedness. The Tathagata's speech conduct is completely pure, the Tathagata does not have any speech conduct that is not completely pure, therefore the Tathagata does not have the thought of hiding anything, that it does not matter if others do not know. This is the second unguardedness. The Tathagata

The conduct of the mind is completely pure. The Tathagata does not have any impure conduct of the mind. Therefore, the Tathagata does not have the thought of concealing anything, thinking that others may not understand. This is the third absence of guarding. What are the three mindfulnesses of the Tathagata? When the Tathagata teaches the Dharma, some listen attentively, respectfully listen, and abide with a mind of obeying the teachings. Even if they diligently practice the Dharma that accords with the Dharma, the Tathagata will not be pleased by this, will not feel comfortable in his mind, and his mind will not waver. This is the first mindfulness. Some do not listen attentively, do not listen respectfully, and do not abide with a mind of obeying the teachings. Even if they do not diligently practice the Dharma that accords with the Dharma, the Tathagata will not be extremely distressed by this, will not feel unbearable, and his mind will not be overly agitated. This is the second mindfulness. Some listen attentively, respectfully listen, and abide with a mind of obeying the teachings, diligently practicing the Dharma that accords with the Dharma; some do not listen attentively, do not listen respectfully, and do not abide with a mind of obeying the teachings, not diligently practicing the Dharma that accords with the Dharma. However, the Tathagata will neither be pleased nor extremely distressed by this, always maintaining mindfulness, and abiding in equanimity with knowledge. This is the third mindfulness. What is the nature of the Tathagata's non-forgetfulness? The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, in order to proclaim the meaningful Dharma, do not miss the opportunity to benefit all sentient beings. This is called the nature of non-forgetfulness. What is the abandonment of the obscuration of habit by the Tathagata? All Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, although they have abandoned the afflictions, still experience bodily changes. The Tathagata does not have these, and this is called the abandonment of the obscuration of habit. What is the great compassion of the Tathagata? The great compassion with which the Tathagata is endowed enables him to understand the languages of the world, and in order to observe the roots of virtue, at all times, day
