does not generate a mind of anger, does not generate a mind of hatred and delusion, and does not generate a mind of harm. Furthermore, they abide with minds endowed with the nature of all-knowingness, and they do not dedicate those roots of virtue to the ground of hearers or solitary buddhas. Furthermore, having made it common with all sentient beings, they dedicate it completely to unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Subhuti, thus, a bodhisattva mahasattva abiding in the perfection of meditation is one who completely upholds the perfection of morality. Petition: Blessed One, how does a bodhisattva mahasattva abiding in the perfection of meditation completely uphold the perfection of patience? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, here, a bodhisattva mahasattva abiding in the perfection of meditation, individually discerns form as like a mass of foam; individually discerns feeling as like a water bubble; individually discerns perception as like a mirage; individually discerns formations as like a plantain tree; individually discerns consciousness as like an illusion. When he individually discerns the five aggregates in that way, the perception of having no essence abides closely. When he individually discerns in that way, even if limbs and parts are cut off, he thinks, "Who is it that is cutting this? Whose is feeling? Whose is perception? Whose are the formations? Whose is consciousness?" He thinks in that way. When he individually discerns in that way, even if harm is done to one who becomes angry, he thinks, "Who is it that is angry and scolding, and who is there in this anger and scolding that generates a mind of harm?" He thinks in that way. Subhuti, thus, a bodhisattva mahasattva abiding in the perfection of meditation is one who completely upholds the perfection of patience. Petition: Blessed One, how does a bodhisattva mahasattva abiding in the perfection of meditation completely uphold the perfection of diligence?

Secluded from desires, secluded from sinful and unwholesome dharmas, thus practicing, even achieving and abiding in the fourth dhyana. They do not grasp at the characteristics of dhyana and the limbs of dhyana. With such a mind in equipoise, they should extensively practice the various kinds of magical feats they perform. With the realm of the divine ear, they also hear the sounds of gods and humans. With the mind, they also completely know the various thoughts of the minds of other sentient beings and other individuals. Thus practicing, even up to the unsurpassed mind, they also truly know the unsurpassed mind as it is. The various recollections of former abodes should also be extensively practiced. With the pure divine eye, surpassing the deeds of human eyes, thus practicing, even seeing how sentient beings go according to their accumulated karma. Abiding in these five kinds of higher knowledges, in order to attend to the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, to generate roots of virtue, to ripen sentient beings, and to purify the Buddha-fields, they also go from Buddha-field to Buddha-field. They do not dedicate those roots of virtue to the ground of the Hearers or the Solitary Buddhas; instead, they make it common with all sentient beings and dedicate it to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Shariputra, thus, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding in the perfection of meditation is one who upholds the perfection of diligence. Asked: Blessed One, how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding in the perfection of meditation uphold the perfection of wisdom? The Buddha said: Shariputra, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abiding in the perfection of meditation does not see form, does not see feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness. Does not see the perfection of giving, does not see the perfection of ethics, does not see the perfection of patience.
