Regarding my lineage trees, like the great Sala tree and others, and the gods of the Four Great Kings' retinue, and the gods of the Pure Abodes' retinue, for the sake of these, whatever roots of virtue have been generated, all of these are manifestly gathered together, unified and measured, and I shall rejoice with the supreme rejoicing. With excellent rejoicing, and with the principal, the best, the supreme, and the abundant, having rejoiced, the roots of virtue born from the moment of rejoicing are completely dedicated to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Maitreya said: Venerable Subhuti, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who has newly entered the Great Vehicle, thinking of all the roots of virtue of the Buddha Bhagavan and the Shravaka Sangha, rejoices with the supreme rejoicing, rejoices with incomparable rejoicing, and after rejoicing, also dedicates them to unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, then how will that Bodhisattva Mahasattva not become inverted in perception, inverted in mind, and inverted in view? Subhuti replied: Maitreya, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva thinks of the Buddha Bhagavan and the Shravaka Sangha, he will not perceive them as Buddhas, nor will he perceive the roots of virtue as roots of virtue, nor will he perceive the mind with which he dedicates as a mind; if he dedicates in this way, the Bodhisattva's perception will not be inverted, his mind will not be inverted, and his view will not be inverted. If a Bodhisattva thinks of the Buddha Bhagavan and those roots of virtue, and clings to signs, and having clung to signs, rejoices and dedicates them to unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, if he dedicates in this way, then perception, mind, and view will become inverted. If a Bodhisattva, regarding the Buddha Bhagavan and those roots of virtue, and those with whatever mind he thinks of, those likewise cease and cease.

That which is to be known, and whatever is exhausted, cannot be completely dedicated. The mind with which one dedicates, that mind is also its nature. Where one dedicates, that is also its nature. Knowing this, if one dedicates in this way, it is a harmonious dedication, it is a true dedication, it is not a disharmonious dedication, nor is it a wrong dedication. Bodhisattva Mahasattvas should dedicate in this way. If Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, from the Buddhas, Bhagavat, of the past, future, and present, whatever roots of virtue are generated by individual beings, and whatever Dharma teachings are heard, and whatever roots of virtue are generated by gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, and whatever roots of virtue are generated by those like great sala trees of the kshatriya caste, and those like great sala trees of the brahmin caste, and those like great sala trees of the householder caste, and the gods of the retinue of the Four Great Kings who have heard the Dharma and also generated roots of virtue, and those who have generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, having completely gathered all of them, unified and measured them, one rejoices with the supreme rejoicing, and with the excellent rejoicing, and with the principal, and with the superior, and with the abundant rejoicing, and with the incomparable rejoicing, and with the unequal and equal rejoicing. Having rejoiced, one also dedicates all of them to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. If these dharmas are exhausted, ceased, non-existent, and transformed, then the dharma to which one dedicates is also empty of inherent existence. Having thus truly understood, if one dedicates in this way, it is a dedication to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. If dharmas do not dedicate with dharmas, why is that? It is because all dharmas are empty of inherent existence.
