This perception is the seventh overcoming base. Internally perceiving formlessness, the external form is white, the color is white, it appears white, the hue is white. For example, like the light of the morning star, or like cloth made in Varanasi (Sanskrit: Vārāṇasī), it is white, the color is white, it appears white, the hue is white, although seeing those forms, one knows them by overcoming. Seeing by overcoming. Thus, this perception is the eighth overcoming base. What is it to be without affliction? Abiding in meditative concentration, acting in the manner of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, having the power to prevent the arising of afflictions in other sentient beings and persons, what kind of samadhi accomplishes this is called being without affliction. What is the knowledge of aspiration? Abiding in meditative concentration, thinking "I should know this," the Bodhisattva Mahasattva makes a mental aspiration for the knowledge of the three times, or whatever knowledge he desires. Having risen from that samadhi, that aspiration is completely fulfilled, and the knowable is also known, that knowledge is called the knowledge of aspiration. What are the six superknowledges? The superknowledge of magical powers, the superknowledge of the divine eye, the superknowledge of the divine ear, the superknowledge of knowing the minds of others, the superknowledge of remembering past lives, and the superknowledge of knowing the exhaustion of defilements, these are the six superknowledges. What are the four complete purities? Complete purity of body, complete purity of object, complete purity of mind, and complete purity of wisdom, these are the four complete purities. What are the ten powers? Power over life, power over mind, power over resources, power over karma, power over birth, power over aspiration, power over prayer, power over magical powers, power over wisdom, and power over Dharma, these are the ten powers. Subhuti, what are the ten powers of the Tathagata? Subhuti, in this, the Tathagata knows as it is, truly, what is possible as possible. And what is impossible as impossible, he knows truly.

He knows perfectly as it is the past, the future, and the present actions, and the ripening of actions fully undertaken, the nature of the place and the nature of the cause. He knows perfectly as it is the world of various realms and the world of multiple realms. He knows perfectly as it is the various inclinations and the multiple inclinations of other sentient beings and other individuals. He knows perfectly as it is the superior and inferior faculties of other sentient beings and other individuals. He knows perfectly as it is the path of universal going. He knows perfectly as it is the faculties, the powers, the limbs of enlightenment, the meditations, the liberations, the samadhis, the attainments, all the defilements, and the purification, the complete purification. In various ways, he remembers past lives, from remembering one lifetime, to remembering a hundred lifetimes, a thousand lifetimes, a hundred thousand lifetimes, and a billion trillion hundred thousand lifetimes. From remembering one eon, to remembering a hundred eons, and many hundreds of eons, many thousands of eons, many hundreds of thousands of eons, and many billions of trillions of hundreds of thousands of eons. He remembers: 'I used to live in such and such a place, my name was such and such, my caste was such and such, my family was such and such, I ate such and such food, I lived there for such and such a long time, the end of my life was such and such, and after dying from there, I was born in such and such a place, and after dying from there, I was born here.' Thus, with aspects, with places, and with reasons, he remembers past lives in various ways. With the divine eye, which is pure and transcends the human, he also sees sentient beings dying and being born. He knows perfectly the sentient beings who are ugly and beautiful, good and bad, abiding in happy realms and abiding in miserable realms, and who go according to their actions. This sentient being

Those are endowed with evil conduct of body, endowed with evil conduct of speech, endowed with evil conduct of mind, who slander the noble ones, who have wrong views. By that cause, by that condition, when the body is destroyed, they fall into the evil realms and are born in the hells of sentient beings. These sentient beings are endowed with good conduct of body, endowed with good conduct of speech, endowed with good conduct of mind, do not slander the noble ones, and have right views. By that cause, by that condition, when the body is destroyed, they are born in the happy realms, in the world of gods. Thus, it is well known. Because of the exhaustion of the outflows, the liberation of mind and the liberation of wisdom, and the undefiled, just as it is, is well known. These ten are the powers of the Thus-Gone One. Fortunate One, what are the four fearlessnesses of the Thus-Gone One? Having made the vow, 'I have awakened to complete and perfect enlightenment,' no ascetic, or Brahmin, or god, or demon, or Brahma, or any other assembly of beings in the world will argue with me with the Dharma, saying, 'This one has not awakened to manifest enlightenment with this Dharma.' Because the cause is not truly seen, and because the cause is not truly seen, I attain happiness, attain freedom from anxiety, and conduct myself with fearlessness, making a vow in the place of the excellent great elephant. I roar the lion's roar in the midst of the assembly. In the world, no ascetic, or Brahmin, or god, or demon, or Brahma, or anyone else can turn the wheel of Dharma, but I will turn it well. Having made the vow, 'I have exhausted the outflows,' no ascetic, or Brahmin, or god, or demon, or Brahma, or any other assembly of beings in the world will argue with me with the Dharma, saying, 'These outflows have not been completely exhausted.' Because the cause is not truly seen, and because the cause is not truly seen, I attain happiness, attain freedom from anxiety, and conduct myself with fearlessness, making a vow in the place of the excellent great elephant. In the midst of the assembly
