Thus, with skillful means, having surpassed the grounds of Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas, one enters the flawless Bodhisattva ground. Having entered the flawless Bodhisattva ground, one purifies the Buddha-field completely, matures all sentient beings completely, and attains the state of omniscience. Having attained the state of omniscience, one turns the wheel of Dharma. Having turned the wheel of Dharma, one establishes sentient beings in the three vehicles separately and liberates them completely from saṃsāra. Subhūti, thus a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva engages in gradual practice with wisdom, but all of that is without object. Why is that? It is because it is without intrinsic nature. Furthermore, Subhūti, a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva trains in gradual practice, gradual learning, and gradual entry. At the very moment of generating the first thought, with a mind endowed with omniscience, one realizes that all dharmas are without the intrinsic nature of substantiality, and one cultivates the recollection of the Buddha. One cultivates the recollection of the Dharma, the recollection of the Saṅgha, the recollection of morality, the recollection of generosity, and the recollection of the deities. Subhūti, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva cultivate the recollection of the Buddha? Subhūti, in this case, a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva does not focus on the form of the Tathāgata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One; one does not focus on feeling, perception, formation, or consciousness. Why is that? It is because form is without intrinsic nature. Whatever is without intrinsic nature is without substance. Feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are without intrinsic nature. Whatever is without intrinsic nature is without substance. One cannot recollect the insubstantial with the insubstantial. Why is that? The absence of recollection and the absence of focus is the recollection of the Buddha. Furthermore, Subhūti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva cultivates the recollection of the Buddha, one does not focus on the Tathāgata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One.

He does not focus on the thirty-two major marks of a great being. He does not focus on the golden color of the body. He does not focus on the light extending one fathom. He does not focus on the eighty minor marks. Why is that? Because they are without inherent existence. Why is that? If there is no inherent existence, then it is without substance. Because it is without substance, one cannot remember what is without substance. Why is that? Without remembering and without focusing, it is to recollect the Buddha. Subhuti, furthermore, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva cultivates the recollection of the Buddha, he does not focus on the aggregate of morality of the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One. He does not focus on the aggregate of concentration, the aggregate of wisdom, the aggregate of liberation, the aggregate of the wisdom of seeing liberation. Why is that? Because they are without inherent existence. If there is no inherent existence, then it is without substance. Because it is without substance, one cannot remember what is without substance. Why is that? Without remembering and without focusing, it is to recollect the Buddha. Subhuti, furthermore, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva cultivates the recollection of the Buddha, he does not focus on the ten powers of the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One. He does not focus on the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha. Why is that? Because they are without inherent existence. If there is no inherent existence, then they are without substance. Because it is without substance, one cannot remember what is without substance. Why is that? Without remembering and without focusing, it is to recollect the Buddha. Subhuti, furthermore, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva cultivates the recollection of the Buddha, he does not focus on the dependent arising of the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One. Why is that? Because it is without inherent existence. If there is no inherent existence, then it is without substance.

Because things do not exist, one cannot remember the non-existence of things. What is the reason for this? The absence of memory and the absence of attention is the remembrance of the Buddha. Subhuti, in this way, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, practicing in the Prajnaparamita of the nature of the non-existence of all dharmas, should cultivate the remembrance of the Buddha. In this way, there is a path of gradual practice, gradual learning, and gradual entry. He learns gradual practice, learns gradual learning, and learns the path of gradual entry. By means of the nature of the non-existence of things, he perfects all the Paramitas, and all emptiness, and the four mindfulnesses, and the four right abandonments, and the four legs of miraculous power, and the five faculties, and the five powers, and the seven branches of enlightenment, and the eightfold noble path, and the noble truths and meditations and immeasurables, and the formless attainments, and the eight liberations, and the nine successive abidings in meditative absorption. He perfects the Samadhi of emptiness, and the Samadhi of signlessness, and the Samadhi of wishlessness. He perfects the superknowledges, and the Samadhis, and the doors of Dharani, and the ten powers of the Tathagata, and the four fearlessnesses, and the four analytical knowledges, and great love and great compassion. He perfects the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha. He perfects even up to the all-knowingness. That is the nature of the non-existence of all dharmas, which will manifest enlightenment, if there is a thought of the existence of things in it, or a thought of the non-existence of things, then even a particle of the action of memory exists, what need is there to say of being separated from memory? Subhuti, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva cultivate the remembrance of the Dharma? Subhuti, in this way, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices in the Prajnaparamita, when he cultivates the remembrance of the Dharma, he does not attend to virtuous dharmas, he does not...
