This is the practice on the Perfection of Wisdom. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, it is like this, one does not fixate on the Perfection of Wisdom, nor does one fixate on the Bodhisattva, nor does one fixate on the practice. Who practices, with what does one practice, and on what does one practice, these are also not fixated upon. Subhuti, whatever one practices, not fixating on any of those, that is the non-practice of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, it is the practice on the Perfection of Wisdom. Requested: Blessed One, if like that, without practice, is the practice on the Perfection of Wisdom, then how should a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who is a beginner practice the Perfection of Wisdom? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, it is like this, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who is a beginner, from the very moment of generating the first thought, should train in all dharmas without fixation. When he gives alms, he should give alms in a way that is without fixation. When he keeps the precepts, he should keep the precepts in a way that is without fixation. When he practices patience, he should practice patience in a way that is without fixation. When he exerts effort, he should exert effort in a way that is without fixation. When he enters into samadhi, he should enter into samadhi in a way that is without fixation. When he cultivates wisdom, he should cultivate wisdom in a way that is without fixation. When he meditates on inner emptiness, he should meditate on inner emptiness in a way that is without fixation. When he meditates on the emptiness of the nature of non-things, he should meditate on the emptiness of the nature of non-things in a way that is without fixation. When he meditates on the four close placements of mindfulness, he should meditate on the four close placements of mindfulness in a way that is without fixation. When he meditates on the four correct abandonments, the feet of miraculous power, the faculties, the powers, the limbs of enlightenment, and the eightfold noble path, he should meditate on the eightfold noble path in a way that is without fixation. When he meditates on the four noble truths, the meditations, the four immeasurables, the four formless absorptions,

The eight realisations, the nine successive meditative stabilisations, and when meditating on emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, clairvoyance, samadhi, and the gateways of dharani, one should meditate on the gateways of dharani in a non-referential manner. When meditating on the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the unmixed qualities of the Buddha, one should meditate on the unmixed qualities of the Buddha in a non-referential manner. When meditating up to the all-knowingness, one should meditate on the all-knowingness in a non-referential manner. Asked: Blessed One, by what measure does one become referential? By what measure does one become non-referential? The Blessed One said: To the extent that there is duality, to that extent there is reference; non-duality is non-reference. Asked: Blessed One, what is meant by duality? The Blessed One said: To the extent that there is eye and form, to the extent that there is mind and dharma, and to the extent that there is unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment and Buddhahood, Subhuti, these are duality. Asked: Blessed One, what is it? Is it that which is referential is non-referential, or is it that which is non-referential is non-referential? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, that which is referential is not non-referential, and that which is non-referential is not non-referential. Subhuti, the equality of reference and non-reference is non-reference. Subhuti, thus should a Bodhisattva Mahasattva train in the equality of reference and non-reference. Thus, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who trains in the Perfection of Wisdom will become endowed with non-reference. Asked: Blessed One, if it is so that when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he does not cling to reference, nor does he cling to non-reference, then how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, by practicing the Perfection of Wisdom, completely perfect the grounds? And having completely perfected the grounds, how does he obtain all-knowingness? The Blessed One said:

Lapa. Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices prajnaparamita, he abides in an object of focus and does not perfect from ground to ground. When a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices prajnaparamita, he abides in an object of focus and is unable to perfect from ground to ground. Why is that? Because prajnaparamita is also without an object of focus, and enlightenment is also without an object of focus. Whoever practices prajnaparamita is also without an object of focus. Subhuti, thus should a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practice prajnaparamita. Asked: Blessed One, if prajnaparamita is without an object of focus, and whoever practices towards enlightenment is also without an object of focus, then how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, practicing prajnaparamita, fully understand all dharmas, saying, 'This is form, this is feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness, this is the sense base, the realms, and dependent origination, this is paramita, this is emptiness, this is the dharma of the aspects of enlightenment, this is the noble truth, meditation, immeasurable, and formless samadhi, this is liberation, the samadhi of gradual abiding, this is emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, this is supernormal knowledge, samadhi, and the doors of dharani, this is the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, up to this is the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment'? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices prajnaparamita, how does he make form an object of focus, and feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness an object of focus, and the sense base, the realms, and dependent origination an object of focus, and all the paramitas and all emptiness
