Because of the presence of manifestation, one cannot generate right view, nor can one enter without fault. One cannot attain the fruit of stream-entry, or the fruit of once-returning, or the fruit of non-returning, or the state of an arhat, nor can one awaken to unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, it is so, it is so. Because there is no manifestation of fabrication, one cannot generate right view, nor can one enter without fault, nor can one attain the fruit of stream-entry, or the fruit of once-returning, or the fruit of non-returning, or the state of an arhat, nor can one awaken to unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. Subhuti, for that reason, the giving of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom is also without manifestation of fabrication, appearing as emptiness, appearing as voidness, appearing as unsubstantiality, appearing as without essence. Why is that? Subhuti, for example, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is well-trained in inner emptiness, well-trained between the emptiness of the self-nature of non-things. Subhuti, that Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in those emptinesses, and however he does not conceive of manifestation, so he does not depart from the Perfection of Wisdom, and however the Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not depart from the Perfection of Wisdom, so immeasurable, countless, and limitless merit increases. He asked: Blessed One, what is the difference and distinction between immeasurable, countless, and limitless? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, the term 'immeasurable' refers to that which does not come close to being counted in the realm of conditioned or unconditioned phenomena. Subhuti, the term 'countless' refers to not setting a measure for the phenomena that have arisen in the past, future, and present. Subhuti, the term 'limitless' refers to that which cannot be measured.

O Lord, I beseech you, by what designation does form become immeasurable, countless, and limitless, and also feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness become immeasurable, countless, and limitless? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, there is such a designation by which form becomes countless, immeasurable, and limitless, and also feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness become countless, immeasurable, and limitless. I beseech you. Lord, by what designation does form become immeasurable, countless, and limitless? And feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness become immeasurable, countless, and limitless? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, form is also emptiness, that is, countless, immeasurable, and limitless. Feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness are also emptiness, that is, countless, immeasurable, and limitless. I beseech you. Lord, is it only form that is empty, and feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness that are empty? Is it not that all phenomena are empty? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, what do you think? Have I not said that all phenomena are empty? I beseech you. Lord, the Thus-Gone One has said that all phenomena are empty, and what is called emptiness is unobtainable, that is, immeasurable, that is, countless, that is, limitless. Lord, in emptiness, neither quantity is seen, nor measure is seen, nor boundary is seen. Lord, therefore, in these phenomena, it is not seen to distinguish by meaning or by letters. The Blessed One said: Subhuti, it is so. It is so, in these phenomena, it is not seen to distinguish by meaning or by letters. Subhuti, what is called inexhaustible, or what is called immeasurable, or what is called emptiness, or what is called signless, or what is called wishless, or what is called unconditioned, or what is called unborn, or what is called desireless, or what is called unceasing, or what is called nirvana

This matter of place is unspeakable, as spoken by the Tathagata, even to the point of inexhaustibility or Nirvana, it is said to be the manifestation of the Tathagata's teachings. Question: World Honored One, the Dharma-nature of all dharmas, as taught by the Tathagata, this Dharma-nature is also unspeakable, which is very rare. According to my understanding of the meaning spoken by the World Honored One, World Honored One, all dharmas are unspeakable. The World Honored One taught: Subhuti, it is just so. It is just so, Subhuti, all dharmas are unspeakable. Subhuti, the unspeakability of all dharmas is emptiness, and there is no speech in emptiness. Emptiness cannot be spoken. Question: World Honored One, does the meaning of unspeakability have increase or decrease? The World Honored One taught: Subhuti, it is not so. Subhuti, the meaning of unspeakability has neither increase nor decrease. Question: World Honored One, if the meaning of unspeakability has no increase or decrease, then the World Honored One's Perfection of Giving will also become without increase or decrease. The Perfection of Morality, the Perfection of Patience, the Perfection of Diligence, the Perfection of Meditation, and the Perfection of Wisdom will also become without increase or decrease. The Four Mindfulnesses will also become without increase or decrease. Right Exertions, Miraculous Feet, Faculties, Powers, Limbs of Enlightenment, and the Eightfold Noble Path will also become without increase or decrease. The Four Noble Truths, Meditations, Immeasurables, Formless Absorptions, Eight Liberations, Nine Successive Abidings, Emptiness, Signlessness, and Wishlessness will also become without increase or decrease. The Superknowledges, the Samadhis, and the Dharani Gates will also increase and decrease.
