Son, when a Bodhisattva takes the precepts, samadhi, wisdom, liberation, and the vision of the knowledge of liberation of the Buddhas of the past, future, and present as objects of mind and holds them as signs, but does not understand the precepts of the Buddhas, nor understand samadhi, wisdom, liberation, and the vision of the knowledge of liberation, because they do not understand and do not comprehend, after hearing the sounds of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, they hold these as signs of peace, hold these as signs of peace, and dedicate them to unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. A Bodhisattva who dedicates in this way will abide in the ground of a Hearer or a Solitary Buddha. Sharadvatiputra, why is that? Because in this way, being separated from the Perfection of Wisdom and skillful means, dedicating these roots of virtue to unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment will certainly be so. Sharadvatiputra, for this Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, from the initial generation of the mind, holding closely without being separated from the mind of all-knowing wisdom, giving charity, keeping precepts, practicing patience, exerting effort, and engaging in meditative concentration, this is inseparable from the Perfection of Wisdom and skillful means. For the precepts, samadhi, wisdom, liberation, and the vision of the knowledge of liberation of the Buddhas, the Bhagavat Tathagatas of the past, future, and present, they do not hold them as signs; they do not hold the samadhi of emptiness as a sign, they do not hold the samadhi of signlessness as a sign, they do not hold the samadhi of wishlessness as a sign. Sharadvatiputra, it should be known that this Bodhisattva-Mahasattva will not abide in the ground of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. Why is that? Because in this way, this Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, from the initial generation of the mind, holds closely, even if giving charity, they do not grasp at signs; even if keeping precepts, they do not grasp at signs; even if practicing patience, they do not grasp at signs; even if exerting effort,

Even if practicing, do not grasp at the characteristics. Even if abiding in meditative concentration, do not grasp at the characteristics. Even if cultivating wisdom, do not grasp at the characteristics. The discipline, meditative concentration, wisdom, liberation, and liberating knowledge and vision of the Buddhas, the Bhagavat Buddhas of the past, future, and present, do not grasp at the characteristics. Even if cultivating emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness samadhi, do not grasp at the characteristics. Sharadvatiputra, therefore, with a mind free from characteristics, completely give charity, uphold morality, cultivate patience, exert effort, abide in meditative concentration, cultivate wisdom, cultivate inner emptiness, and even cultivate the emptiness of the nature of non-things, cultivate mindfulness, right abandonment, the feet of miraculous power, the faculties and powers, the branches of enlightenment, cultivate the eightfold noble path, cultivate the noble truths, cultivate meditative concentration and immeasurables, cultivate formless absorptions, cultivate the eight liberations, cultivate the nine successive abidings in meditative concentration, cultivate emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, cultivate supernormal knowledges, the doors of meditative concentration and dharani, the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, cultivate the unshared qualities of the Buddha, and even cultivate all-knowingness, this is the skillful means of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. The Twenty-Five Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita, Fiftieth Chapter. Please tell me, Bhagavan, as I understand the meaning spoken by the Bhagavan, from the moment a Bodhisattva Mahasattva generates the first thought until they do not separate from the Prajnaparamita and skillful means, then there is no doubt about their unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment. Why is that? Bhagavan, it is because from the moment a Bodhisattva Mahasattva generates the first thought until they attain complete enlightenment, and the form that will attain complete enlightenment...

Immeasurables? Formless attainments? Liberations? Gradual abiding attainments? Emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness? Superknowledges? Samadhi? The doors of dharani? The powers of the Tathagata? Fearlessnesses? Individual perfect knowledges? Great love? Great compassion? Unmixed Buddha dharmas? Omniscience? No dharma is an object of focus. Blessed One, a son or daughter of good family of the Bodhisattva Vehicle who is separated from the Perfection of Wisdom and skillful means, there is no doubt about their unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment. Why is that? Blessed One, it is like this: whatever generosity those sons or daughters of good family of the Bodhisattva Vehicle give, they give it while grasping at signs. Likewise, whatever morality they protect, whatever patience they accomplish, whatever diligence they exert, whatever meditation they enter into, and whatever wisdom they cultivate, they cultivate all of that while grasping at signs. Therefore, it is known that the unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment of those sons or daughters of good family of the Bodhisattva Vehicle is doubtful. Blessed One, therefore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes to manifestly awaken to unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment should not be separated from the Perfection of Wisdom and skillful means. Having remained in the Perfection of Wisdom and skillful means, one should completely give generosity with a mind that is non-objective and endowed with signlessness. One should protect morality. One should accomplish patience. One should exert diligence. One should enter into meditation. One should cultivate wis
