Are there any phenomena apart from suchness, which arises dependently, that are different from unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment? All perfections, all emptinesses, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, the noble truths, meditative stabilizations, immeasurables, formless absorptions, the eight liberations, the nine successive abidings, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, direct knowledge, meditative stabilizations, the doors of dharanis, the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four individual perfect knowledges, great love, great compassion, and the suchness of the eighteen unshared qualities of a Buddha—are there any phenomena apart from these that are different from unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment?

Me, is there such a dharma that deviates from bodhi? He said, 'Venerable Subhuti, no.' He said, 'If, in this way, these dharmas are not observed as they truly are, then what is such a dharma that deviates from unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment?' He said, 'As the venerable Subhuti has shown by the nature and form of the dharma, no bodhisattva deviates from unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment. Thus, the three types of individuals, the bodhisattva vehicle, shown by the Thus-Gone One, will not even differentiate the bodhi of those three individuals, because the venerable Subhuti shows the bodhisattva vehicle like this: that is, the bodhisattva mahasattva becomes the sole vehicle of the Buddhas.' Then, the venerable Maitreya's son said to the venerable Sharadvatiputra, 'Venerable Sharadvatiputra, does the venerable Subhuti also think of one bodhisattva? The venerable Subhuti should be asked.' Then, the venerable Sharadvatiputra said to the venerable Subhuti, 'Venerable Subhuti, does the bodhisattva think of himself as a vehicle of the Buddhas?' Subhuti said, 'Venerable Sharadvatiputra, in suchness, does the bodhisattva think of himself as a vehicle of the Hearers, a vehicle of the Solitary Buddhas, a vehicle of the Buddhas, and three bodhisattvas?' He said, 'Venerable Subhuti, no.' He said, 'Venerable Sharadvatiputra, in suchness, are three bodhisattvas observed?' He said, 'Venerable Subhuti, no.' He said, 'Venerable Sharadvatiputra, is suchness observed by one cause, two causes, or three causes?' He said, 'Venerable Subhuti, no.' He said, 'Venerable Sharadvatiputra, in suchness, is even one bodhisattva rightly seen?' He said, 'Venerable Subhuti, no.' If, in this way, these dharmas are not observed as they truly are, then from what would the venerable Sharadvatiputra think like this

This Bodhisattva is a follower of the Hearer Vehicle. This Bodhisattva is a follower of the Solitary Buddha Vehicle. This Bodhisattva is a follower of the Buddha Vehicle. One should think thus. Sharadvatiputra, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva thus distinguishes without difference by the Suchness of all dharmas, if the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva's mind does not shrink, is without timidity, and has no regret in mind, then that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva will attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Then the Blessed One said to the venerable Subhuti: "Subhuti, well done, well done! Thus, by the power of the Buddha, you have well spoken these words for the sake of the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas. Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva thus distinguishes without difference by the Suchness of all dharmas, if the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva's mind does not shrink, is without timidity, has no regret in mind, and does not fear, dread, or tremble, then that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva will attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment." Subhuti asked: "Blessed One, by what enlightenment will a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who possesses such qualities attain enlightenment?" The Blessed One said: "Subhuti, by unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, that Bodhisattva-Mahasattva will attain enlightenment." Subhuti asked: "Blessed One, how should a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who is about to attain enlightenment abide in unsurpassed perfect enlightenment?" The Blessed One said: "One should abide in equanimity towards all sentient beings. One should generate a mind of equality towards all sentient beings; one should not generate a mind of inequality. One should focus on all sentient beings with a mind of equality; one should not focus with a mind of inequality. One should generate great love and great compassion towards all sentient beings. One should focus on all sentient beings with a mind of loving-kindness.
