The Sugatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Ones of the past, from the initial generation of the mind until the complete passing into the realm of Nirvana without remainder, having gathered together all the roots of virtue, rejoice in them and dedicate them to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete Awakening. Thus, they teach those sons or daughters of good family and show the image of the Perfection of Wisdom. Indra asked: "Lord, how do those sons and daughters of good family teach, those sons or daughters of good family who are of the Bodhisattva Vehicle, that they do not show the image of the Perfection of Wisdom?" The Blessed One replied: "Kauśika, here, sons or daughters of good family, those sons or daughters of good family who are of the Bodhisattva Vehicle, should teach the Perfection of Wisdom in this way: 'Come, son of good family, cultivate the Perfection of Wisdom! Do not truly regard form as impermanent.' Why is that? Because form is empty by its very nature. Whatever is the nature of form is without substance. Whatever is without substance is the Perfection of Wisdom. In the Perfection of Wisdom, neither 'form is permanent' nor 'form is impermanent' is perceived. If form itself does not exist, how can there be a view of permanence or impermanence?' Thus they teach. Kauśika, those sons or daughters of good family who teach in this way are not showing the image of the Perfection of Wisdom. Kauśika, furthermore, sons and daughters of good family, those sons and daughters of good family who are of the Bodhisattva Vehicle, should teach the Perfection of Wisdom in this way: 'Come, son of good family, cultivate the Perfection of Wisdom! Do not truly regard feeling as impermanent. Do not truly regard perception, formation, and consciousness as impermanent.' Why is that? Because consciousness is empty by its very nature. Consciousness

Its nature is that which is without substance. That which is without substance is the Perfection of Wisdom. That which is the Perfection of Wisdom, in that, consciousness, whether it is permanent or impermanent, is not observed. If in that, consciousness itself is absent, how could permanence or impermanence exist? Thus it is taught. Kauśika! Those sons or daughters of good family who teach in that way do not show the image of the Perfection of Wisdom. Kauśika! Furthermore, those sons or daughters of good family, those sons and daughters of good family of the Bodhisattva Vehicle, teach the Perfection of Wisdom in this way: Come, son of good family! Meditate on the Perfection of Wisdom. Do not truly regard impermanence, even up to all-knowingness. Why is that? Because all-knowingness is empty of inherent existence. The inherent existence of all-knowingness is that which is without substance. That which is without substance is the Perfection of Wisdom. That which is the Perfection of Wisdom, in that, all-knowingness, whether it is permanent or impermanent, is not observed. If in that, all-knowingness itself is absent, how could permanence or impermanence exist? Thus it is taught. Kauśika! Those sons or daughters of good family who teach in that way do not show the image of the Perfection of Wisdom. Kauśika! Furthermore, those sons and daughters of good family, those sons and daughters of good family of the Bodhisattva Vehicle, teach the Perfection of Wisdom in this way: Come, son of good family! Meditate on the Perfection of Wisdom. Do not completely transcend any dharma. Do not abide in any dharma. Why is that? Because it is known in this way that in the Perfection of Wisdom there is no such dharma to be transcended or dharma in which to abide. Why is that? Kauśika! Thus, all dharmas are empty of inherent existence. That which is a dharma empty of inherent existence is that which is without substance. That which is without substance

That is the Perfection of Wisdom. For what is the Perfection of Wisdom, there is no Dharma to be accepted, no Dharma to be abandoned, no Dharma to be generated, and no Dharma to be negated. Kausika, those sons or daughters of good family who teach in that way do not show the image of the Perfection of Wisdom. Kausika, therefore, sons or daughters of good family should teach the meaning of the Perfection of Wisdom in that way. Kausika, the accumulation of merit of those sons or daughters of good family who teach in that way increases greatly, unlike the previous sons or daughters of good family. Kausika, furthermore, if some son or daughter of good family were to place as many sentient beings as there are in Jambudvipa in the fruit of stream-entry, Kausika, what do you think? Does the merit of that son or daughter of good family increase greatly because of that? He replied: Blessed One, it is much. Sugata, it is much. The Blessed One said: Kausika, even more than that, whichever son or daughter of good family extensively speaks, teaches, explains, elucidates, clarifies, and correctly instructs others with this Perfection of Wisdom that is meaningful and literal, and says this: Come, son of good family, hold this Perfection of Wisdom, fully understand it, master it, become familiar with it, properly attend to it, and diligently apply yourself to the Perfection of Wisdom as it is taught. If they exhort in this way, then their merit will increase even more. Why is that? Kausika, because from this Perfection of Wisdom, there will be those who enter the stream. Kausika, let alone the sentient beings of Jambudvipa, let alone the sentient beings of the four great continents, let alone the sentient beings filling a thousandfold world, let alone the sentient beings of a two-thousandfold intermediate world, let alone the sentient beings of a three-thousandfold great thousand world being placed in the fruit of stream-entry, Kausika, in each of the ten directions.
