Do not let there be the sound of retention and the door of dharani, and the power of the Thus-Gone One, and fearlessness, and individual perfect enlightenment, and great love and great compassion, and the unshared qualities of the Buddhas, etc. One should not abide in the manner of focusing on what is to be done. Do not let there be the sound of a stream-enterer. Do not let there be the sound of a once-returner, and the sound of a non-returner, and the sound of an Arhat. One should not abide in the manner of focusing on what is to be done. Do not let there be the sound of a solitary Buddha. Do not let there be the sound of a Bodhisattva. Do not let there be the sound of a Buddha. One should not abide in the manner of focusing on what is to be done. Why is that? Thus, the Thus-Gone One, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, having manifestly and perfectly awakened to unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, has awakened because all phenomena are without focus. Kauśika, thus a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should not abide in the manner of focusing on the Perfection of Wisdom. Then the venerable Śāradvatīputra thought to himself: How should a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abide in the Perfection of Wisdom? Then the venerable Subhūti, having completely known with his mind the mental thoughts of the venerable Śāradvatīputra, said to the venerable Śāradvatīputra: Venerable Śāradvatīputra, what do you think? Where does the Thus-Gone One, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha abide? The venerable Śāradvatīputra said: Venerable Subhūti, the Thus-Gone One does not abide in anything. Venerable Subhūti, the mind of the Thus-Gone One, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, does not abide in the Perfection of Generosity, nor does it abide in the Perfection of Discipline, and the Perfection of Patience, and the Perfection of Diligence, and the Perfection of Meditation, and the Perfection of Wisdom. It does not abide in form. It does not abide in feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness. It does not abide in the sense bases, the elements, and dependent origination.

Feeling due to the root, feeling due to the contact of the body's aggregation, feeling due to the contact of the mind's aggregation, it neither abides nor does not abide. It neither abides in the earth element nor does not abide. It neither abides in the water element, the fire element, the wind element, the space element, nor the consciousness element, nor does it not abide. It neither abides in ignorance nor does it not abide. It neither abides in formations and consciousness, name and form, the six sense sources, contact, feeling, craving, grasping, becoming, birth, old age, and death, nor does it not abide. It neither abides in the perfection of generosity nor does it not abide. It neither abides in the perfection of morality, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, nor the perfection of wisdom, nor does it not abide. It neither abides in inner emptiness nor does it not abide. It neither abides between the emptiness of the nature of non-things nor does it not abide. It neither abides in the mindfulnesses nor does it not abide. It neither abides in the right abandonments, the feet of magical power, the faculties and powers, the limbs of enlightenment, nor the eightfold noble path, nor does it not abide. It neither abides in the noble truths, meditation, the immeasurables, the formless absorptions, liberation, the successive abidings, emptiness and signlessness, wishlessness and clairvoyance, samadhi and the doors of dharani, the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four individual correct knowledges, nor the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, nor does it not abide. It neither abides between the omniscient nature of all aspects nor does it not abide. Thus, one should abide in the Perfection of Wisdom. The son of Sharadvati, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, should train in the Perfection of Wisdom in such a non-objective manner. One should abide. Then that assembly.
