I, Bodhi, should not abide with the thought that unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment is not made and can be designated. I should not abide with the thought that the stream-enterer is called the place of giving. I should not abide with the thought that the once-returner, the non-returner, the Arhat, the solitary Buddha, and the Tathagata Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, are the place of giving. Kauśika, furthermore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva should not abide with the thought of abiding in the first bhumi. He should not abide with the thought of abiding in the second bhumi, the third bhumi, the fourth bhumi, the fifth bhumi, the sixth bhumi, the seventh bhumi, the eighth bhumi, the ninth bhumi, and the tenth bhumi. Why is that? Because abiding becomes unstable. Kauśika, furthermore, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva should abide in generating the first thought of enlightenment and perfect the perfection of giving. He should not abide with such a thought. He should perfect the perfection of morality, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom. He should not abide with such a thought. He should perfect the four mindfulnesses. He should not abide with such a thought. He should perfect the four correct abandonments, the four legs of magical power, the faculties, the powers, the branches of enlightenment, and the eightfold noble path. He should not abide with such a thought. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva should enter the Bodhisattva path without fault. He should not abide with such a thought. Having entered the Bodhisattva path without fault, he should abide in the irreversible ground. He should perfect the five superknowledges of the Bodhisattva. Abiding in the five superknowledges of the Bodhisattva, he should look upon the Buddhas, the Bhagavadatas, make prostrations, make offerings, serve and respect them, listen to the Dharma, and having heard it, also truly for others.
