A Bodhisattva is empty of a Bodhisattva. Kauśika, thus the perfection of giving is empty of emptiness, the perfection of ethics, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, the perfection of meditation, and the perfection of wisdom are empty of emptiness, and a Bodhisattva is empty of emptiness, these two are inseparable and indivisible. Kauśika, a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva should thus abide in the Prajñāpāramitā. Kauśika, furthermore, inner emptiness is empty of inner emptiness. The interval between the emptiness of the nature of non-things is empty of the interval between the emptiness of the nature of non-things. A Bodhisattva is empty of a Bodhisattva. Kauśika, thus inner emptiness is empty of emptiness, the interval between the emptiness of the nature of non-things is empty of emptiness, and a Bodhisattva is empty of emptiness, these two are inseparable and indivisible. Kauśika, a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva should thus abide in the Prajñāpāramitā. Kauśika, furthermore, the mindfulnesses are empty of the mindfulnesses. The right abandonments and the feet of miracles, the faculties and the powers and the limbs of enlightenment, and the eightfold noble path are empty of the eightfold noble path. A Bodhisattva is empty of a Bodhisattva. Kauśika, thus the mindfulnesses are empty of emptiness, the right abandonments and the feet of miracles, the faculties and the powers and the limbs of enlightenment, and the eightfold noble path are empty of emptiness, and a Bodhisattva is empty of emptiness, these two are inseparable and indivisible. The doors of dhyanas and dharanis, and the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the unmixed dharmas of the Buddhas are empty of the unmixed dharmas of the Buddhas. Emptiness of the fruit, the fruit of once returning, the fruit of non-returning, the state of an Arhat, self-enlightenment, knowing the aspects of the path, emptiness of all aspects of knowledge, emptiness of a Bodhisattva, in this there is no duality and cannot be made into duality. Kauśika, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should thus abide in the Perfection of Wisdom. Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, said to the Venerable Subhuti: Venerable Subhuti, how should a Bodhisattva Mahasattva not abide in the practice of the Perfection of Wisdom? Subhuti said: Kauśika, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, he should not abide in form in the manner of an object of focus. He should not abide in feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness. He should not abide in the eye in the manner of an object of focus. He should not abide in the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind. He should not abide in form in the manner of an object of focus. He should not abide in sound, smell, taste, touch, and phenomena. He should not abide in eye consciousness in the manner of an object of focus. He should not abide in ear consciousness, nose consciousness, tongue consciousness, body consciousness, and mind consciousness. He should not abide in the contact of the eye in the manner of an object of focus. He should not abide in the contact of the ear, the contact of the nose, the contact of the tongue, the contact of the body, and the contact of the mind. He should not abide in the feeling born from the contact of the eye in the manner of an object of focus. He should not abide in the feeling born from the contact of the ear, the feeling born from the contact of the nose, the feeling born from the contact of the tongue, the feeling born from the contact of the body, and the feeling born from the contact of the mind. He should not abide in the earth element in the manner of an object of focus. He should not abide in the water element, the fire element, the wind element, the space element, and the consciousness element.
