Nor is it. Formless, invisible, unimpeded. Thus, without characteristics, it is solely of one characteristic. Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should train in non-attachment to all dharmas and in the very reality of non-existence. Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should also understand all dharmas without conception and without differentiation. Petition: Blessed One, what are all dharmas? Blessed One, how should a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva train in the very reality of non-attachment to and non-existence of which dharmas? What are all the dharmas that a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should understand? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, what is called all dharmas are good and non-good, those that should be designated and those that should not be designated, mundane and supramundane, with outflows and without outflows, conditioned and unconditioned, with faults and without faults, common and uncommon. Subhuti, these are called all dharmas. A Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should also train in non-attachment to all those dharmas and in the very reality of non-existence. The all dharmas that a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should know are those very dharmas. Petition: Blessed One, what are the mundane virtuous dharmas? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, what is called mundane virtuous dharma is: knowing mother, knowing father, knowing renunciates, knowing Brahmins, respecting elders within one's lineage, the meritorious activities arising from generosity, those arising from ethical discipline, those arising from meditation, objects endowed with practice, the paths of the ten virtuous actions, and the nine mundane perceptions, namely: the perception of bloating, the perception of worms, the perception of putrefaction, the perception of lividity, the perception of being eaten, the perception of scattering, the perception of bones, the perception of decay, and the perception of burning, and the mundane.

The four meditations, the four immeasurables, the four formless absorptions, the five supernormal cognitions, and the ten worldly recollections. These are the recollections of the Buddha, the Dharma, the Sangha, the precepts, generosity, the deities, the in-and-out breathing, the form of the body, revulsion, and death. These are called virtuous worldly dharmas. The question: Blessed One, what are the non-virtuous worldly dharmas? The Blessed One replied: They are the paths of the ten non-virtuous actions. For example, Subhuti, killing is a non-virtuous worldly dharma, taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, idle chatter, covetousness, malice, wrong view, anger, holding grudges, concealment, vexation, harm, jealousy, miserliness, pride, and excessive pride. Subhuti, these are non-virtuous worldly dharmas. The question: Blessed One, what are the unspecified dharmas? The Blessed One replied: The actions of the body are unspecified, the actions of speech are unspecified, the actions of mind are unspecified, the four great elements are unspecified, the five faculties are unspecified, the six sense sources are unspecified, birth in the four formless realms is unspecified, the aggregates, elements, and sense sources are unspecified, and all fully ripened results are unspecified. Subhuti, these should be known as unspecified dharmas. The question: Blessed One, what are the worldly dharmas? The Blessed One replied: Subhuti, what are called worldly dharmas are the aggregates, sense sources, elements, the ten virtuous paths of action, the four meditations, the four immeasurables, the four formless absorptions, the five supernormal cognitions, and whatever worldly dharmas there are that are not transcendent of the world.

Those are called worldly dharmas. Asked: World-Honored One, what are the supramundane dharmas? The World-Honored One said: Good man, the so-called supramundane dharmas are the four mindfulnesses, the four right abandonments, the four legs of magical power, the five roots, the five powers, the seven branches of enlightenment, the eightfold noble path, and the doors of liberation—emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, the root of the unknown to be known, the known root, the root of complete knowledge, the samadhi with investigation and analysis, the samadhi without investigation but with analysis only, the samadhi without investigation and without analysis, wisdom, liberation, mindfulness, awareness, appropriate attention, and the eight liberations. What are the eight liberations? One who has form contemplates form; this is the first liberation. One who has no internal perception of form contemplates external forms; this is the second liberation. The pure liberation; this is the third liberation. Completely transcending the perception of form, with the disappearance of perceptions of resistance, not thinking of various perceptions, knowing "space is infinite," abiding in the sphere of infinite space; this is the fourth liberation. Completely transcending the sphere of infinite space, knowing "consciousness is infinite," abiding in the sphere of infinite consciousness; this is the fifth liberation. Completely transcending the sphere of infinite consciousness, knowing "there is nothing at all," abiding in the sphere of nothingness; this is the sixth liberation. Completely transcending the sphere of nothingness, abiding in the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception; this is the seventh liberation. Completely transcending the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, approaching the cessation of perception and feeling.
