Sharadvatiputra, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices in this way is practicing the Perfection of Wisdom. Sharadvatiputra, if this Jambudvipa were filled entirely with monks like Sharadvatiputra and Maudgalyayana, like a reed forest, a kusha grass forest, a sugarcane forest, a bamboo forest, a rice field, or a sesame field, even then, their wisdom would not approach even one percent of the wisdom of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom, let alone a thousandth, a hundred thousandth, or a hundred millionth, or a count, a part, a calculation, a simile, or a cause. Why is that? Sharadvatiputra, it is because the wisdom of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva exists for the purpose of completely liberating all sentient beings from suffering, but the wisdom of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas is not like that. Sharadvatiputra, furthermore, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom, even the wisdom cultivated in a single day, surpasses and overwhelms the wisdom of all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Sharadvatiputra, let alone Jambudvipa being filled entirely with monks like Sharadvatiputra and Maudgalyayana. Sharadvatiputra, if the entire three-thousand great thousand world system were filled entirely with monks like you, even then, their wisdom would not approach even one percent of the wisdom of a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom, let alone a thousandth, a hundred thousandth, a hundred millionth, a billionth, a hundred billionth, a trillionth, a quadrillionth, a hundred quadrillionth, or a count, a part, a calculation, or a simile, let alone a cause.

And filled entirely with beings like the son of Sharadvati and the son of Daga. South, west, north, northeast, southeast, southwest, northwest, and each direction of the lower and upper directions, there are worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River. Even if they were filled entirely with beings like the son of Sharadvati and the son of Daga, their wisdom would not even come close to one-hundredth of the wisdom of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva practicing Prajnaparamita for one day. One-thousandth, one hundred-thousandth, one millionth, one hundred millionth, one trillionth, one ten-trillionth, one hundred trillion-millionth, number, part, count, and metaphor cannot even come close, let alone the cause. The son of Sharadvati asked: World Honored One, whether it is the wisdom of a Shravaka Stream-enterer, Once-returner, Non-returner, Arhat, or a Pratyekabuddha, or a Bodhisattva, and the wisdom of a Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha, all these wisdoms are not different, there is no distinction. Emptiness, solitude, unborn by nature, emptiness by essence. World Honored One, since there is no difference, no solitude and unbirth, and there is no difference or distinction in emptiness by nature, then how, World Honored One, can a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, practicing Prajnaparamita, with the wisdom cultivated in one day, surpass the wisdom of all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas? The World Honored One said: Son of Sharadvati, what do you think? Does the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, practicing Prajnaparamita, cultivate wisdom for one day because I act by knowing the aspect of the path, benefit all sentient beings, and fully awaken to all dharmas in every way, thereby completely liberating all sentient beings from suffering? For what purpose is one preparing, it is like that.

For the sake of that. Do all the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas abide in wisdom as a preparation? They replied: Blessed One, it is not so. The Blessed One said: Sharadvatiputra, what do you think? Do the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas think thus: We have manifested perfect and complete enlightenment in unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment, and we will completely lead all sentient beings, without exception, to the realm of complete nirvana? They replied: Blessed One, there is no such thought. The Blessed One said: Thus, Sharadvatiputra, This category should also be understood in this way: If this wisdom is taken as closer than the wisdom of all the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and also the wisdom of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, then this wisdom is not even close to one in a hundred of the wisdom of all the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. It does not even come close to a thousandth part, a hundred thousandth part, a hundred billionth part, a thousand billionth part, a hundred thousand billionth part, and even number, part, calculation, and metaphor cannot come close, and it cannot even be used as a cause. Sharadvatiputra, what do you think? Do all the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas think thus: We have practiced the six perfections, matured sentient beings, purified the Buddha-fields, perfected the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, great love, great compassion, and the eighteen unmixed Buddha-dharmas, and manifested perfect and complete enlightenment in unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment, and we will lead immeasurable and countless sentient beings to nirvana? They replied: Blessed One, there is no such thought.
